Im an ATT customer with Cingular. Turns out that I cannot get any games from mMode for my Motorola SLVR L7 phone. The phone is designed for MEdia or whatever the Cingular equivalent is, etc.
I think Cingular wins and are gonna win me over..
My question is.. How is this going to work? I know I'm going to get a plan with half the minutes i got from AT&T cuz thats all that seems to be available now, but in addition to the plan.. when going through the migration process (online atleast),they want me to select a new phone as well. Granted, had i known i was going to migrate i would have bought a SLVR from them, similar price as the ebay price i paid.. But, what if I dont want a new phone from them, my phone is unlocked afterall. Just give me the new sim or whatever..
Arent the 2 year contracts because of a special price discount on a phone? Could I not sign a contract? or atleast only a year? Special discounts/credit for not taking a free/discounted phone?
I sure hope so, or it be a big waste to have bought this unlocked phone...
Thanks for your feedback on this process

two options:
option 1:
go to a store, get a one year contract (can't get no contract) and buy a sim and migrate. put the sim in your phone.
Option 2:
call customer care and sign up for a two year contract. get the free phone and the sim. no cost. keep the other phone as a backup.

If you really like your old contract and want to keep all the minutes, but want to switch phones, just put your old sim into the new phone and don't call cingular at all

Dude If You Can Get Out Of Signing With Stinkular Do It. Go To Another Carrier And Have Your Number Ported.

there is no activation fee for migrating to cingular
if the "retailer" (assuming independant dealer) is charging a fee that fee is generated from that store not the company

Anytime you get a new phone from Cingular at a discounted price you will get a contract. If you have an unlocked phone, you do not have to go under contract, unless you pick a price plan with a promotional element, such as M2M.
There was at one time an "upgrade" fee for migrating, that has since been done away with.
