Hello,
I'm currently with Nextel, and will be switching to Verizon soon. My two phone options are the LG VX8100 or the Samsung SCH-a950.
My question is, on the LG is there a way to apply a different background to the exterior screen than what is on the interior?
Also, if anyone has any insight on my two choices that could help me make the decision, that would be great. Anything that could help would be appreciated.
Being with Nextel has become more hassle than its worth, so I'd like to learn more up on Verizon. I've read the forum and reviews, but would like some more opinions, anyways.
Thanks in advance

Howdy jack708
The LG VX8100 is a terrific phone. You can indeed use different "wallpaper" on each inner and outer screens. You can also have the outer screen display a picture of an individual caller (if you have a picture of them available) so you can "see" who's calling. You can take their picture with the onboard camera.
One of my favorite VX8100 features is the miniSD card slot. You can store MP3's, flicks, pictures and ringtones on the miniSD - actually pretty easy to do. I use BitPim to manipulate phone information and content through a BlueTooth dongle or a cable (my option, I have both).
The displays are brilliant, colorful and clear, and the 1.3 megapixel camera does a fair job in good light... kinda clumsy to change its settings, but after all it is a PHONE with a camera capability. There is an irritating delay in snapping a picture, but many digital cameras have that as well.
The VCast Video feature is "interesting" but may or may not be worth the money to you. I pay an extra $15/mo for VCast video (plus minutes) and Web access (no minutes) in a "package deal." You can do the Web access alone for $5/mo. Technically, the VCast video is sometimes funny because the voice is not fully coordinated with the action... you know, the lips move 1 or 2 seconds after you hear the speech. This is not on all video-casts... sporadic. The VCast screen is very clear with great color - you can even "rotate" the view 90° to, in effect, get a larger picture. VCast has tabs for News, Entertainment, Sports and Weather.
I do like the MP3 player capability and have loaded many performances I like onto the miniSD card. I can access my MP3's from the front buttons (phone closed), or from the interior file system. There is a firmware upgrade (Version 07) which enables, I believe, the WinPlayer file capability and temporarily disables the MP3 - but it's easy to re-enable the MP3 cabability. I have used freeware to rip tracks off my favorite CDs into MP3 format, then load them onto the miniSD card and listen when I want. Again I have to comment "It's a PHONE with MP3 capability" not a dedicated MP3 player.
I find the battery life acceptable, but have also obtained a 1700 mah extended battery. You can use the phone while it's recharging.
I can't compare with the other phone you mentioned... sorry this was so long-winded, but as you can tell, I do like the VX8100.

Hi Charles
Thanks! That helped out a lot! After just what I think finished off my Nextel e-mail conversation.. hah it's definetely time to get this going.
Do you have any experience with that new VCAST Music thing that is on pretty much every commercial now?
Thanks again!

I have no experience with the VCast Music. Through the use of my miniSD card and other free software, I have ripped tracks off my favorite CDs covertting them to MP3 format, loaded those onto the SD card in the MY_MP3 folder and played them from there. From what I've read on other forums, about the only thing I could gain using VCast Music is a playlist. I've not upgraded my firmware to Version 07 to enable VCast Music, nor do I plan to since the upgrade requires some manipulation to re-enable MP3 player functionality.
Actually, my musical preference is Classical and Choral, and I suspect the VCast music is more oriented to pop.
