It's still the same everything, just a different name. Same as when it was AT&T and went to Cingular. Same customer service, same everything just a new name.

The old AT&T wireless network and the Cingular
network are a bit different in terms of cell site locations,
type of equip (gsm, quad band, 3g) and as such some
features of one network might not be available in all areas.
For example: I am on Cingular .. in Northern NJ Passaic County .. well populated ... while my phone supports
internet, I have Never Seen the Internet Service Available Icon nor have I ever been able to use internet ... I don't think it will work until either GPRS or 3G is added to the towers where I am at. As to Cingular going back to be AT&T Wireless .. hopefully we won't be
changing technology again .. just the splash screen

if you can't access the internet, then it's your phone, not the network. the basic technology of AWS and cingular are the same as it is both GSM 850/1900. the only difference is how your sim authenticates on the network.
everything will stay the same except for the name. no change in tech, except the continous rollout of UMTS. it's not gonna be like when cingy took aver AWS.

My phone has all the settings in place for Internet ... It is a Motorola V180 ... according to Cingular website, if Internet or Data Service is available, I should see an Icon just to
the Right of the Signal Bars ... I never see that Icon, so that tells me the Towers are not yet set up for internet .. I think, they need the 3G technology in the tower for internet to work ... most towers for Cingular are just quad gsm

3G is the technology that gives advanced data services. GPRS/EDGE is the current available data network and is available where you have voice service.
cingular operates on dual-band GSM 850/1900. the data would be included in the GSM network towers. I'm not sure why you can't access data, but it wouldn't be the network.

Well, maybe internet is considered advanced data services ... my text messaging works ok, just not internet .. and I checked all the settings .. I will look again at the sticky, but I am sure they are right .. they were put in by the store who originally sold me the services

I'm a bit confused. I live in Oklahoma and a year or so ago, AT&T Wireless dissolved into Cingular in our area. So, is Cingular going to change to AT&T or is AT&T going to change to Cingular? I wish they'd make up their minds!! My contract is up in a few months and I'm trying to decide whether to stay with Cingular or not.
Thanks

ATT bought SBC (the parent company of cingular) the Cingular wireless brand will remain in place for the time being...eventually (no time line yet specified) all the subsidiaries will have their names changed
several years ago the att as a company was forced to split into several smaller companies... ATT land service... att long distance ....att wireless
those companies were under the corporate "umbrella" of att... in november (the 18th it be came official) 2004 Cingular wireless acquired ATTWS (wireless service only) and the former ATTWS name was changed to Cingular... more recently ATT the parent corporation bought SBC the parent company of Cingular wireless
clear as mud?
we should start a new Soap...

Actually SBC bought AT&T and changed their name to at&t. Now since the Bellsouth merger looks to be happening, at&t is aquiring 100% of Cingular and therefore will be changing Cingulars name to the new at&t brand. lol sorry to throw more mud into the mix
