the Right of the Signal Bars ... I never see that Icon, so that tells me the Towers are not yet set up for internet .. I think, they need the 3G technology in the tower for internet to work ... most towers for Cingular are just quad gsm |
first of all us towers are not quad ban just some of the phones secondly it is your phone thats not picking up the availability to access the internet, possibilities because you dont see the icon is that
A) its not set up in the billing system
B) its not properly configured in the phone
either way you will need to contact cs to get corrected , and dont call from you phone beacuse thayey cant do anything while you on your phone

Just in my experience with the AT&T Go Phone that is my house, the little "G" symbol on the home screen that y'all are talking about does not need to be there in order for you to access data services such as GPRS.
In fact, I've never seen the "G" symbol until I manual connect to the service myself. My mom's GoPhone is a Nokia 3590, so to access mMode (GPRS data services), I have to press and hold down the zero key on the number pad for about 2.5 seconds and then it begins connecting to wireless data.
Once I've done that, then I see the little "G" icon in the upper left of the screen showing me that I am connected, and occasionally, it will have a slash mark through the "G" showing a temporary drop in connection if I happen to be moving, and then comes back in a min or two.
I don't know how you would connect to wireless data on a moto, as I have limited experience with them, but I would assume, (as long as the data service connection settings are all correct) that it would be something like what I do on my mom's nokia, or go to GUI menu and connecting that way.
I've noticed on some newer phones in stores that there is a little "I" icon printed on one of the numberpad of the phone or somewhere near by and you press and hold that to connect, do the motos have this? Not sure but is worth a look.
Hope this helps.

the "G" does mean GPRS... that is the data side of your coverage... the coverage maps that you see online are for voice...the slash thru the "G" means you have no data coverage in that spot

I understand that, I was just saying that in my limited experiecne, the "G" does not show up on the screen at all, until I try to connnect to data services. Once I do, the "G" is there until I disconnect from the data services, unless a call is reccieved. Then it just pauses, takes the call, and then goes back to data. Perhaps this only happens on the 3590, but such has been my experience.

I was under the belief that Internet Access was either on a paid Monthly Rate or on a Per User per KB Rate .. so I do not think it is a billing issue ... as for the options, I triple checked all of them with both the info on this site & on the Cingular web site for the settings, user id, password, ip .. etc

the 3590 being a GPRS device... it is only capable of a data call or a voice call... not both simutaneously... the indicator is just that...an indicator... you dont see it when you are in a voice call becuase a data connection is unavailable to you at the time... when you dissconnect from that voice call the indicator comes back because the data connection is available again... the indicator for a GPRS attach is the "G" with a box around it...if you see a box around the "G" the phone is transferring data..... otherwise its just an indication of service availability

Ok, I see what you are talking about I know you cant have a "data call" and a "voice call" simultaniously, and I am not trying to gripe, I am mearly trying to say, that when I am not on a voice call, that little "G" is never there, until I connect to data services manually.
What it has seemed like to me is that y'all are refering to this "G" as to a network antenna bar meter:
"When there is a GPRS service avalible on the piece of network you happen to be on at that moment, then the "G" appears, when you cant, it doesnt."
I am saying that for my mom's phone, that is not the case. That "G" never shows up on the screen, until I make a "data call" as you name it. Then when I am done, the "G" goes away.
This is on an old AT&T Wireless Go Phone, not a new Cingular Go Phone, I am not sure if this makes a difference, but there you go.

I take offense to that.
I feel that I know more about phones than the average person, and I admit I am not in the industry so I may not know as much about how cell phones work as y'all do, but I am telling you that in the two years that my mom has this phone, it has worked flawlessly, and it has always behaved in the manner that I have described.
If you say that the phone is defective, fine , such is your assessment, I was merely posting my experiences concerning mobile data on this particular phone. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the phone, it has never had any problems.

you said it your self how can you take offence to that , and apperently it isnt flawless because your gprs indicator doesnt work properly, it might be somthing small now but can turn to a larger problem later, if it was a network issue you would not beable to access the browser at all
