What it has seemed like to me is that y'all are refering to this "G" as to a network antenna bar meter:
"When there is a GPRS service avalible on the piece of network you happen to be on at that moment, then the "G" appears, when you cant, it doesnt."
I am saying that for my mom's phone, that is not the case. That "G" never shows up on the screen, until I make a "data call" as you name it. Then when I am done, the "G" goes away.
This is on an old AT&T Wireless Go Phone, not a new Cingular Go Phone, I am not sure if this makes a difference, but there you go. |
You have an older phone that didn't display the "G" at all times. It only shows up when you use it. It's always available, but there isn't an indication on your screen.

I called Cingular and was told they will not supply another phone. They said my options are to move my phone service for this number to Cingular and buy a new phone or purchase a used AT&T phone wherever I could find one. The problems with switching my service to Cingular is that I have three phones, a compatible Cingular service plan cost more than my current AT&T plan and the Cingular plan is not competitive with other providers I have researched. My AT&T contract is good until Nov. 2006 so they have me at a disadvantage. There is an added grievance to this issue. I found an AT&T compatible phone on Wednesday 4/19/06 as they told me to do. Before I purchased the phone I called Cingular with the ID numbers for the phone and the customer service rep told me the phone will work and that they will send a new sim card out that day. I paid for freight and waited. On Monday 04/24/06 I called to track the shipment. I was told it should arrive no later than Wednesday 04/26/06. I still did not have the phone on the 26th so I called Cingular again. During this call I was told the sim card had not shipped. They said the order was written up wrong. The paperwork was redone and I paid for freight again. On Friday the 28 I called to check. Again I was told the card had not shipped. We reordered the card agian and I was told it would ship that day, Friday the 28th. On Monday 05/01/06 I called to check on the shipment. Once again the card had not shipped. The first two times they charged me for freight but I am supposed to see a full credit on my phone bill. How can Cingular buy my contract but not be required to service my account with quality service and equipment? How can they hold me to my contract but not service the contract unless I pay for a costlier contract. The way Cingular is handling the purchase of AT&T is to strong hand AT&T customers into buying one of their programs.
Thank You,

Ok this is easy. You signed a contract with ATT that you would be provided service for 2 years, and you received a phone. If you had insurance, you would have been provided with another phone. Cingular, or even ATT for that matter is not required to provide you with another phone. Even if your a Cingular (with a Cingular phone) you are not provided with another phone, you must purchase one at full price if you do not have insurance.
As far as rate plans, Cingular is very competitive compared to the other national carriers (with the exception of t-mobile of course). They are the same exact thing as Verizon, plus rollover.
By the way, if you switch, you may be eligible for free phones, and bonus minutes. ask the rep you talk to if they could check on it.
