Well after what seems like an eternity of different bit rates and settings and encoders i have had success in getting a 40min video converted and it played the whole way through without glitches.
I tried the Nokia Multimedia converter 2 & it converted my video into the following.
Video codec : H.263
Image Size: 176x 144
Frame Rate: 15
Audio Codec: AMR
Sample rate: 8000 hz
Channels: mono
How is anyone else getting on?

Well I got an entire movie on the slvr. Its about 170mb. 1 hour 35min.
The rate you used is correct.
First I ripped the dvd with DVD decrypter. This makes multiple video files what have to be merged. Once they are merged (NTFS required), or not. You can use 3GP_convert (I used version 3.4) to convert it to the numbers above. But I made one change. Even though the conversion software says that its 15fps, the call to ffmpeg was set to 15.985. I ahanged it to 15 and everything when swimmingly.
Which is great, as I have a business trip this weekend and I can watch the movie on the plane.
Hope this helps.

If you could post your viewing experiance findings after your trip, especially if any audio sync issues creep in then that would be great.
I have noticed that if they are going to happen then the seconds counter in the video player starts to clock up whole seconds faster than an actual steady increment of 1 sec
I haven't had a chance to try anything else with those settings so hope they work out for you.
Let us know how you get on

You can change the screen resolution under the video settings, you can then watch it in alittle bit bigger screen
But im sure you knew that though
