I am considering changing my phone.. Just that these days, it is really very difficult to find a suitable one.
I require a good camera, mp3 player and expandable memory.
is the nokia 6280 a good choice? it is a slide phone, which I find quite interesting. After reading the nokia web page, I'm not sure if the display is good. It has a 262 144 colour display, 320X240 pixels, yet it is active matrix? not sure if that's very good. will it really matter? active matrix has the ghosting thing right?
and apparently there's no video recording feature. that's quite a let down.
how does the third generation series 40 interface work? would anybody please advice? i really like to know that.
does this phone support flexible customization, such as themes and all that? I really would prefer one that is freely customizable as I like making my own stuff and personalizing my things.
please advice on this phone. I'm not sure if it's a good choce.
thanks~

You mistaken things when talking about active matrix. Active Matrix is the good stuff, no ghosts. Passive displays left ghosts in the past, but today quite all newer phones do have active matrix displays.
The phone does have video recording, no idea where you got the misinformation from.
The 3rd Edition brings only bigger displays, nearly fullscreen caller ID, several new JSRs and APIs, new hardware, a slightly new look of the menu and so on... more or less it is just tuning under the hood
On the surface there is no big difference to the prior versions.

sorry for the blunder. haha! i really must have been reading off the wrong place or something.
anyway, i have been reading reviews about the phone on the net. just want to know..anyone here uses slide phones? have they ever broken before? heard they break easily but not too sure too.
how new exactly is the 6280? there have been some user reviews that say it crashes and so on. i would like to wait until it is at least 2 months old or after nokia has stabalized things a bit before i ever purchase one.

I haven't used it, can only tell what I've read.
But I know that the weakness on slide phones
normally is the flexible band which connects the two part (some sort of cable, but it is flat).
The 6280 is quite price, about 350 Euro here in Germany (but isn't released yet).
You should first go to a shop and play around with the phone. I personal made the experience that on slider phone the keys are too small for big fingers and ain'T that handy.

I've had a 6280 for about a month now and it's been pretty good.
No crashes, the slide function seems much smoother than the siemens ones, the screen is clear and sharp and the sound from the mp3/radio is great. The camers is very good - but not outstanding.
The only niggle I've got with it is that the MP3 player doesn't have much scope for doing anything other than playing the tracks in the folder you keep them in (no playlists features or similar).
The buttons are quite small, but not too small.

Its a good phone. The radio and camera are excellent but the mp3 player is a let down. The software to transfer mp3's to your phone is pathetic, it won't recognise song or album titles so you have to type them in yourself and you can't really organise either. Also there is only the option to play random or you have to search each track one by one. Its a great phone but DON"T buy it thinking its an MP3 player as its not. Its a misrepresentation advertising this as an mp3 player I reckon.

Does it play mp3's? I would presume that a device that plays mp3's could be called an mp3 player. I don't know though, that's just my opinion. Now if they were calling it a bike, that would be a misrepresentation.

It plays mp3s, AAC and AAC+.
For the transfer: the Nokia software is ok, but you've got to play a bit with it until you understand it correctly.
Once you've got it, it is quite easy and you can manage playlist

Re Mp3 player: It's like saying a Model T Ford is a car. If I went into a dealer and took away a Model T when I was expecting a Golf ((ie you EXPECT minumum standards now, air bags, abs, radio etc) I would be dissapointed. This is what I'm saying. Nokia has advertised it as an MP3 player but it doesn't even have the very basic functions which anyone who had used an ipod, iriver etc would expect today. Nokia isn't the only one, LG phones are even worse at this.
I know one person who has vowed to never buy an LG product again as he can't work out how to get Mp3 files on his phone!
I have read everything about the Nokia Audio Manager software-there isn't much to it (the biggest thing you can do is create playlists but they aren't organised alphabetically, they are random ) as it can't do much.
