Not having a clue as to where you are (your location) it's difficult to predict which Verizon phone would work best for you. I am in the Dallas TX area and very pleased with our VX8100 and VX5200 phones. No dropped calls, good performance.
I'm not aware of any "reception rating" web sites.
It is helpful to post your location when requesting information.

The issue that had sometimes occured with the LG VX6000, is that the antenna harness a bit suspect and reception was not what you'd want it to be. I think the 15 day Worry Free Guaranty is tailor made for you for this situation. You need to try it.
That being said, Michigan is not a strong point for Verizon so you shouldn't expect the normal level of Verizon service and adding that you are on the fringe, that much worse.
Trying something else like a new VZ handset would be very telling and mostly the only way to know....

I love my 8100 and have had pretty good reception with that. For example, tonight when I was driving homs (I too live out in the sticks), a few spots are known gaps and can often drop. The 8100 has yet to drop. It may gut out a little in those spots but not drop. So it's better than average of the last 3 phones I've had (Samsung A610, A670, LG VX6000). I did have the Moto V710 which was the best I've ever had that also didn't drop in those spots either.
So I'd vote 8100. I think it will be stronger than the 6000 (for the reasons I posted above), it is all digital though. If you more cool with All digi, the E815 is hard to beat.
