I know someone with a motorola phone who was able to purchase a datacable (USB) and software and make and load their own ringtones on their phone, thus avoiding any download fees or service fees (like sprint vision plan).

Here's what I know. I know that you can convert MP3's to WAV files (which is what the sanyo mm 8300 uses as ringtones which is what I have). I have downloaded the software necessary to convert my MP3's so I have a library of WAV files waiting to be put on my phone. However I can't find a datacable anywhere. There must be a way that this can get done. This would be the only reason I would use the Sprint Vision plan, and without it they charge you something like $40 per kilobite of dowloaded information. I am sure that most would agree if there is a way to upload my own WAV files to my phone, hey why not? Who wants to pay for the service if they only want ringtones? And $40 per kilobite of info downloaded to the phone is just ridiculous since I downloaded 10 songs and they hit me with an $85 fee. Which they credited back to my account because no one told me about the fee when I purchased the phone and got a free month trial of the vision service. I used 3g for free website so I know the ringtones were free. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? I don't need the software (i am assuming since the purpose is to convert your MP3's to WAV files and I have already done this). Please help.

Hey, I just ran across your thread and I think I can help you, ok first you would need to have the correct software installed on your comp, I have dBpowerAMp, to convert my music files to wav. and I have Miksoft to conert the wav. to amr files. You can actually download these to software packages at www.freeringers.net, its a $7.99 one time fee for the software, and also once you pay the 7.99 you download the software and you select your phone model and carrier from the list, and once you convert your music to the amr files, using the software( they give you step by step instructions) theres a toll called "Real Music Relay" and from there you upload your converted song on the site, and the music relay will send you the song in the form of a text message, you will however need the vision acces pack from Sprint for 10.00 and it includes unlimited internet access from your phone, to download the songs to your phone. If not you'll get charged .02 per kilobyte, also a text package wouldn't hurt either considering they charge you .10 for any incoming and outgoing message, when you can receive 100 for 5.00.

I have been going ringtone crazy for the last week since I got my LX350 from Sprint! I'm talking about music ringtones from ANY song you like. You have to start with the song file on your hard drive, and make the ringtone, then send it to your phone.

You can make your own ringtones if you have iTunes on your PC or Mac. Windows Media player won't work. No extra software is needed. You download them to your phone from a free web site rumkin.com.

If anyone is interested in the details, reply here and I'll post the instructions. You may need to burn the new ringtone to a CD first, so it might cost you a few pennies, but it's better than the $2 - $3 they charge for singing ringtones.

OK, here goes. This isn't exactly accurate, because depending on where you originally got the song, some of the steps aren't requred, but try it and see. I've done this for around 12 songs successfully, and have them all on my phone.

Making ringers with iTunes:

1. Determine part of song you want for ringer
2. In iTunes, right click on song, go to See Info, then Options.
3. Fill in the time start and end, check “remember playback position (don’t know if this is really needed)”, then click OK
4. Right click on song again and select Convert to AAC
a. If the song won't convert, then go to step 6
b. Otherwise, a second copy of the song will be made with just the segment, and it will be M4A format.
c. Rename the song, as it will be in the same folder as the original, and only the file size will distinguish them. I add “Ringer” to the end of the name.
5. Upload to phone using rumkin.com, make sure to upload the SMALL file
6. If the song won't covert to AAC, then do steps 1 through 3 above.
a. Make a copy of the song, putting it in another folder on your hard drive
b. Upload it back to the Library. You’ll have two copies, but one will be tagged with the short segment.
c. Burn to the song with the segment tagged to CD
d. Delete the tagged version from your iTunes Library
e. Put the CD back in the CD player, and rename the song (e.g. put “Ringer” at the end of the name) when it shows in iTunes
f. Import ringer back from CD; the new song will be just the ringer segment.
g. Go to step 5 above

Enjoy!

okay to clear some stuff up.... on a vision phone its 10 dollars minimum for unlimited web and email access... for a power vision phone it is 15 dollars a month minimum for unlimited web and data access... and if you get the 100 text plans thats 5 dollars a month for 100 texts all together.. not just incomming...... and all messages over your package are just $.10 per message.... if you dont have a package its like $.10 per message to recieve and $.20 per message to send

Ok, has anyone found a way to get pictures from the LX350 to a PC w/o purchasing the Vision plan?? Sprint failed to mention this when they sold me this great camera phone. How dumb is it that you need to pay for the service. I just wanted it for the few pics I take of my kids when I don't have my digital with me. I'm not paying $10+ a month for that.

The data cable you need can be found at The Cell PHone Shop. http://www.-edited-/ Just type in your service provider, make and model of your cell phone and they will guide you to the correct data cable.[/url]
