I've nearly killed myself looking for a way to do it to no avail. RAZR V3, right under the signal bars, it says my carrier name, "CINGULAR." Is there any way to customise this to your own liking? I don't want my carrier blaring out on the home page of my phone, I'd like something unique. Or not unique. Anything but "Cingular"
Have tried various tools (Motoskin, etc), have searched for seem hacks, have looked for everything. Am I missing something, or am I stuck with that there? I know I can modify a skin to move the text completely off the screen but that's not the result I'd like.
Thanks for any help. New to this and it's quite addictive.

Use skinner4moto and set it to be transparent.

This is one of the tutorials I looked at. All this one does is simply erase the carrier and date/time from your screen so you can see your wallpaper better. It doesn't change the text, it just erases it.
What I want is something like this in the upper left hand corner:
[Signal bar, etc]

Sorry - misunderstood what you wanted.
For Custom Operator Text:
SEEM 0032,
offset 4B bit 6 must be 0
offset 02 bit 1 must be 0.
Get the plmn_text_table.bin file from your phone using a p2k program. Make a backup copy of it.
Open it with OpEdit, click on "Operator name" to put all the names in alphabetical order. Find your operator (there will be several listings). Click on each name, then double click on it and type whatever you want to appear on your phone.
Transfer the file back to the phone then restart the phone.
If you get a constant voicemail indicator after doing this, turn it off in voicemail setup. You will have to check manually if you miss a call. You may also get the voicemail bug message (>@)
If you also get the dual line indicator after doing this, it can be turned off using P2KTools. Just click "Switch To" and then click "P2K mode". Click on "Other features", then "Other", then remove the check mark from the box next to "Dual line". Click "restart" and your all done!

Hmmmm, doesn't seem to be working. Here's what I did step by step.
-Downloaded plmn_text_table.bin from my phone
-Loaded OpEdit, sorted, found all the Cingular entries. Changed each and every one to what I wanted to appear instead. Hit the Save File button, closed the program.
-Uploaded my new plmn_text_table.bin file to my phone.
-Loaded PKMan, downloaded 0032, 0032, saved it to a file called 0032_0001.seem
-Loaded 10s Seem Changer, typed offset 4b in the box, scrolled to bit 6, switched it from 1 to 0, hit set bit button, then set value button
-Did the same step for offset 02, bit 1 (it was already 0), closed the program
-Loaded PKMan, in the upload fields I put 0032, 0001, hit the upload button, chose my file, uploaded. It said it was successful. Then I hit the restart button, phone loaded, and "Cingular" still appeared.
Seems like I did the right thing, but maybe in the wrong order? Very new to this, and seem edits are giving me the most trouble. Thanks for any further help.
EDIT: Nevermind! I did it all in the wrong order, now it's working. I changed the 0032 seem first and uploaded it, then downloaded the .bin file, changed text in there, reuploaded, and rebooted my phone. Now Spookums is happy. Thank you!
Maybe this should be stickied, or at least a new post created in the tutorials thread? I'd imagine a lot of people wanting to do this, but I spent hours searching last night and came up with *nothing*. Maybe my google-fu just sucks, but I've so far been able to find nearly any mobile modding stuff with just a simple search.

Getting constant voicemail indicator, and turning off the option in the VM setup doesn't seem to help. Hmmm. Any ideas?

It's fugly, but worth it. I'm gonna fool around (after backing up)! And see if I can get rid of it completely.
