I bought this phone a couple of days ago, and i noticed it had the same usb slot as my iRiver MP3 player and was wondering if i can use that cable to put stuff on phone (like music and videos)

well if the cable fit you sure can. Also you are going to need Motorola Phone Tools software to acually put music and videos and pretty much all multimedia stuff on the phone. Read through the fourm and website do some research you can learn alot about your phone.

i got the phone tools but in the device configuration wizard i cant detect my "device model". Its an l6 but theres no l6 on the list thing. what can i do about this?

What version have you got?
Try "live updating" to the latest version (4.04)
