I converted a wav file to a .qcp with the PureVoice application, renamed it to a .mid and uploaded it to my Moto v276(via USB, opening PST and then P2Ktools2 beta). Although I can see the file on the phone in the audio section, and even set it as a ringtone, I only get a static hiss when it plays. I took the same exact file and emailed to my phone. It works without issue. What is possibly going on? Do I need to wipe out the mytone.db and reboot the phone or something? Pictures upload and open without problem, while I can also sync the calender and contacts with MPT, so I am pretty sure the cable works fine.
Audio: Rate 16000 Hz
Sample Format 16-bit
Mono

That one is caused because you used p2kman to upload, something with uploading ringtones through MPT gives it a signature, and p2kman doesn't add up to it. Phones usually tweak out when you use p2kman to upload ringtones, I'm not sure if there was an attributes tweak to fix that..

The problem is that I have a v276, which can't utilize the mediacenter ul/dl option. Thanks for the info though!

Hmmm... I am leaning towards a problem with encoding. I transfered onestop.mid, from the C:\windows\media directory in the same fashion, and it works flawlessly. Although it would make sense that Verizon would pull something like that!
I will have to fool around with the settings and see. Maybe if I download a file and check it's settings and mimic them in the new ringtone, I will have better results. We'll see I guess.

Well, I think, remarkably that it is as simple assigning the ringtone to a category. This fixed everything! Nevertheless, I have outlined the methods I use to modify the Motorola v276 with Verizon.
=========================================
Method for File Transfer on Motorola v276
=========================================
1. Phonebook/Contacts use Motorola Mobile PhoneTools.
2. For Ringtones:
a. Use audacity to convert mp3 to wav.
16-bit sample format
22050 Hz Rate
mono
b. Use pcvconvter (PureVoice) to convert .wav to .qcp
-I just have a directory with the pcvconv.exe file in it.
-I drop the wav file into the directory and drag it ontop of
pcvconv.exe
-It does its magic and gives you the .qcp.
c. Rename .qcp to .mid
d. Plug in phone to USB cable and power on.
e. Open PST Programmer (no need for suspend sequence)
f. Open P2Ktools2 Beta (others may work too?)
g. In P2K mode, navigate to /a/motorola/shared/audio/
h. Upload .mid file to phone.
i. Close out software and disconnect phone.
j. Turn on phone. Sometimes this requires trying a few times. Don't Panic.
Worse comes to worse, pop out the battery and you are ok.
k. Navigate to the sounds menu and you should see your file. It should play
correctly.
l. With the sound highlighted, hit the Menu Key and on the Sounds Menu,
Categories. Create New Category, like Ringtones or whatever.
m. Go back and highlight sound, hit the Menu Key and Assign to Category,
choosing the previous named category (ie Ringtones).
n. Once again go back to sound and hit the Menu Key, Apply as Ringtone.
**Note** After you successfully do this, you will notice when you do step (g) there
will be a "Ringtones" subdirectory or whatever you called it. In the future, just
drop the .mid file in there and apply as ringtone.
3. For Pictures:
a. Plug in phone to USB cable and power on.
b. Open PST Programmer (no need for suspend sequence)
c. Open P2Ktools2 Beta (others may work too?)
d. In P2K mode, navigate to /a/motorola/shared/pictures/
e. Download or Upload to PC.
Software Versions
=================
Mobile Phone Tools v 4.04b
PST v2005.9.1.0
P2K Tools2 0.6 Beta (I think) {latest I could get} and not in English.
Audacity v 1.2.2
PCVConverter v 3.0
Good Luck! L8r... McF

Unbelievable... Everything worked fine last night. I even called the phone and got my ringtone! This morning, just static. WTF! Almost like Verizon Ninjas are scanning my phone at night and corupting the file. I am going to try again tonight and turn off the phone. Wow, I sound paranoid!
