I had the tag put on me phone about 2 months (august?) ago. I called 611 and was transferred to the "off network group" when I asked what it was for I was told it was for ME to track off network usage and keep it below 50% or be dropped by the provider. I said Wow I just called and asked 4? Months (May) ago and asked if I could get out of the contract as I was moving 60 miles to an area that I knew was on shared towers. I was told NO I would have to pay to get out of the contract. I also told them a month (June/July) ago a handset took a dump and I called in and was told to look on the Cingular.com to see the phones to replace mine. At the www site I put in my ZIP code and got a message that my area is not covered (tech support still on phone!) I told the Tech 100% of my calls will be in this zip code and asked if I could get out of the contract and was told, "no just put in your old ZIP code and look at the phone". When I told the off network tech this; the line was “I needed to monitor my calls or be dropped if 51% of my call were off network for three straight months”. I was hung up on twice and spend 14hours (by the clock) over the next two days on the phone was off network. I finally got a manager who said he would pay me back for all the phones we had bought (we have three) and give me the code to unlock them so I could use them on any smart card network. I have rollover for a reason. My mother is in poor health and I will NEED to use the phone a lot if (god forbid) something happens as I cant just run home during the school year. I teach in the day and take online classes at night after grading homework. So I felt like a had planned and saved 3500 minutes for the future but was having them taken from me. So I asked to be paid for them and he said he would. He agreed to cut me a check for $1090.19 before balance due (last months bill) Cingular has drug there feet till mid September and now them don’t want to pay for the minutes AND want to charge me for terminating the plan!!

PS
BigRUSS do you work for the big “C”??

I think I had the same phone as you ….. Or should I say mine worked about that well away from home!

EON
Excessive off network
Cingular does not want your business if you cost them too much cash.

LilRiddles....

if you are off network for more than 50% of your calls...

you are released from your contract... no ETF...

if you were told your were going to have to pay that was incorrect...you should be recieving a letter soon outlining this...it will state quite clearly that there will be no ETF

first of all .......rollover is a free feature on some of the plans it is a gift from cingular to you.....no other company in the world offers them......at any other company what you don't use? You lose. They don't offer to pay you back for what you haven't used and lost..so why should cingular offer you a check for rollover minutes? And for a small fee you could do a relocation......keep your contract, move it to the addy and zip code you are in , put it on a price plan, keep your rollover minutes(which may take up to 60 days to transfer)then you aren't off network....duhhhhhh if people have cingular service in the area you are in 51% of the time..then we offer service there.

where do the rollover minutes come from?
minutes i payed for but did not use!!
if i buy more minutes i get more rolledover at the same usage rate. so i must be paying for them at 17.5 cents each
