I'm turning 18 tomorrow so I'm buying a Sidekick.
I was told I would only have to pay $35 for an activation on it and they would bill me the cost of the phone a month later.
However, now people are telling me I will have to pay a deposit as I have no credit card and no credit history being so young.
I'm wondering, how much would the deposit be?
I planned on getting the unlimited data plan and the $29.99 plan for minutes.
I would appreciate any help, I really am looking forward to get a phone and all I have to spend tomorrow is $100 ($35 activation included).

From experience I can tell you that the deposit will be in the range of $200-300...ouch, I know. I also know (for whatever reason) having a checking account increases the odds of you getting approved without need for a deposit, even if you don't have any loans or credit cards. However, that will take a little time; AT&T cleared me about a month after I set up a checking account. Good luck.

it depends on your credit, it may not cost you anything but it very well could be and after so long you can have the refund posted to your acct or sent back to you

for teenager like 18 .. usually credit score will be nothing .. I'll say you maybe qualify the T , Q class
which T class will require a $75 application fee non refundable but NO activations fee ($35) will apply !!!
Q Class will no deposit require but your first bill will have the $35 act. Fee
** it all depend on whats come back on your credit check

My friend did not have any credit on him so he had to pay a deposit of $$200.00 and an activation fee of $35.00; I'm not sure if he got a free phone though.
And the sidekick II is expensive. $$250.00 for features that are standard on most barshaped or flip phone. It doesn't have bluetooth. Wait for the III edition of this phone later this year.

the sidekick2 being old also has some benefits too. the software has been revised and patched to eliminate bugs. there are tons of available accessories and mods for it (skins, trinkets, bumpers, etc). even some hardware issues have been addressed that annoyed the early adoptors.
if you dont mind beta testing a newly released phone for all intents and purposes, then by all means, wait for the sidekick3. otherwise go with a phone you know you WANT for sure.
