I just bought my 6620 about 2 weeks ago, and I was just wondering why videos are not being recognized on my phone. I do the classic "drag-and-drop" via memory card reader like I did with my former Audiovox SMT5600. Pictures and Mp3's work well, I just have a problem with the videos. My sister also had a 6620 until she got the 6682 recently, and she said she had the same problem. Is it because of the Real Player, or possibly something else? Do I have to use it in a different format? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm just curious what you guys think could be done...any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 6620 only plays .rm, .mp4 and .3gp files (video formats) - but not all variations of it. Also the resolution shouldn't be bigger than 176*132.

I'm prety much a dunce when it comes to this area, but is there a way around it like renaming the extension? Are there any links on where to help me out with this? If there are, I'll just read up on it and try it out for myself. I don't want to take anymore your time. Thanks anyway for the info.

Renaming would do nothing. It will still be the same fileformat.
The Multimedia Player of Nokia PC Suite offers you the conversion to .3gp.
I personal prefer Smartmovie, a DiVX player for the phone. You still got to convert the file, but the converter is quite powerfull.

Hey, thanks Bjoern. Now I'm watching videos on my phone. Of course, this is not the main use for having a smartphone...but its always a plus

is there any media player that can be installed on the phone which can allow better resolution than 176*144? cause it looks pretty grainy.
i read up on smartmovie and it seems pretty cool that it allows full screen view on the phone (cause i dont think you can do that on the real player provided with the phone) but it did not specifiy whether it could boost the resolution. At least 640*480 would be nice you know?

Boosting the resolution of the video wouldn't do anything good. The phones display is 208*144.
SmartMovie doesn't only reencodes the video, it also resizes the video to less or equal the phones screen resolution (depending on the videos aspect ratio).
A bigger resolution won't do any good.
Try compare a picture with different resolutions on your phone:
One bigger than the screen, one at 176*132

aha makes sense thanks for the help. i appreciate the insight.
sorry for my ignorance. this brought on another question. If the max resolution i can play on this phone if i keep real player is only 176*144, is there no other way to make the image look better?
i ask because i converted a few mpgs to 3gps using PC Suite and they were are saved at "No size limit, 176*144". after i imported them to the phone some looked better than others. are my eyes playing tricks on me or is possible for their picture quality to be different? or could it be that the ones that seemed "poor quallity" just had faster camera movements?

You've got it pretty much locked down...scenes with faster frame rates tend to be a bit choppy. If you have SmartMovie, try using these settings, they might help.
Landscape
Reduce Frames: ON
Codec: XVID
Video Bitrate: 96 kbps
Audio Enabled
Force Mono: ON
Frequency: 16000 Hz
Audio Bitrate: 24 kbps
Hope that helps you
