the 2008 is to shut down the TDMA networks, not GSM. there will still be many people on ATTW by 2008 I'm sure. cingular does not cut service to ATTW phones specifically.
if a blue tower is serving a greater amount of people in an area, they will shut down the orange tower and vice-versa. this can negatively impact some customers, but not the majority. ATTW subscribers can access cingualr networks, but because their sim card is branded ATTW, it prefers that respective network. it's not a matter of cingular "letting them use it or not"
the x426's have been buggy from the beginning. sorry, but they are cheap phones that have had ongoing compatibility/OTA/software issues, as elmo has suggested.
getting new phones/sim cards could very well help the issue. if it doesn't...there's always cingualr's buyers remorse period. 30 day trial, if it doesn't work out, return everything and pay only for usage in that time, the contract isn't binding.

I called them today to find out exactly when it does, he asked me why, i told him because we get "were sorry all networks are busy now, please try your call again later"
Then he told me it was because we were on the ATT network or some crap, and if we stayed with them and got a contract with Cingualr we were going to get better coverage, because of connecting to even more towers. See we were with ATT when Cingular bought out ATT. Was all this BS of him to try and get me to stay, or will it really be better if we stay change from ATT to Cingular? | dude its BULL SHIT!! they want you to stay!! i got the same shit from them cocksukers!! sorry on my lango but they are worse since they merged and now i read in the paper att is buying cingular??? what the hell is going on damn bastards at cingular, im going to verizon at least they dont merge with anyone |
Att isn't buying Cingular. SBC, who is a parent company to Cingular, bought ATT's home, long distance, etc. SBC decided to stay with the ATT name. Now, ATT(who changed their name from SBC) is buying fellow parent to Cingular, Bellsouth. After that purchase is complete, ATT(who changed thier name from SBC) is renaming the whole company ATT. Cingular will become known as ATT World. This is expected to happen the end of this year, or early next year.
Oh, and Verizon doesn't "merge" with anyone, they just buy out smaller rivals. Same thing if you ask me.

How can you stay with AT&T when they are being phased out?
