Well we have our phones with ATT for about 2 years now. Our contract is about to expire. I called them today to find out exactly when it does, he asked me why, i told him because we get "were sorry all networks are busy now, please try your call again later"

Then he told me it was because we were on the ATT network or some crap, and if we stayed with them and got a contract with Cingualr we were going to get better coverage, because of connecting to even more towers. See we were with ATT when Cingular bought out ATT. Was all this BS of him to try and get me to stay, or will it really be better if we stay change from ATT to Cingular?

technicly he was correct, if you switch to the "new" cingualr you will beable to run off of both towers, BUT att sim cards have teh availibility to select the network you want to use. NOw at anytime you want to make ANY changes to your account will will HAVE TO migrate

Also if you have a TDMA phone (possibly why they want you to switch) your service will greatly improve because they are in the process of phasing out the TDMA portion of their network (Legacy) anyway. In 2008 the TDMA network will be shut down, there-by terminating service for all phones which use that part of the network. So the Cingular rep is prolly not throwing you a line. If you have a GSM phone currently then two networks to run off are better than the ONE network your phone currently uses. Especially since any new towers that go up are Cingular towers and probably wont be supported by the att accounts. In short, its a good idea to switch over in order to reap the benefits of the combined network. If your still worried ask a service rep. if they will allow you to switch over with the normal 30 day grace period to cancel, since your contract is coming to a close anyway they should have no problem with this. That way you can see if the service really does improve.

the x 427 has a pretty good track record... the only real mark on the record was a batch that had a flaw in the software about 2-2.5 years ago....

Press *#9999#

The screen will read the following if the software is the correct version:

REV 1.6
X46UEDC1
If you see a software version number ending in WJ5, the software version is incorrect.

if you see any other version for the x426 that is the root of the problem

all of this is true, but as a formor cingulare wireless customer service rep I can let you know one problem you are having is cingulare is cutting service to att phones, this is so you will sign a new contract with them and use their phones, or how my trainer put it during our merger training, "it is our system, our rules". they plan to have all att sim cards not working by 2008.
