T-Mobile is terrible in the Bay Area. I live in downtown SJ and I get no reception at many places.
There is also no reception at Fisherman's Wharf in SF. The funny thing is I get good reception on Alcatraz. T-Mobile has got to do something about their GSM signals in the Bay Area.

the phone has 1/2 responsibility
when I am in Far Rockaway Island, I get some reception with 3650, but no reception with 3390
T-Mobile should build a couple of towers there
and, sigh...T300...
borrow a 3650 or 6610 and try again, and see what happens

AT & T is in the same boat. I just bought a Ericsson T616 yesterday. Before yesterday, I had a plain ol AT&T TDMA phone, reception was great pretty much in the whole Bay Area. Well guess what, I work in North San Jose, zero signal strength inside my company, and I have a window office. Half the time I can't even get the GPRS to come in. I have to walk halfway out to the parking lot before I can get any type of reception. Same thing when at my house in Milpitas - zero reception. From the hills all the way to Park Victoria ave - nada.
I love the T616 phone, it has almost everything I would want in a phone, and my net cost is like $50 to upgrade. But if it's not going to get me any reception of any kind, the baby is going back to the store. What's up with that?

Does anyone use Sony Ericsson T610 with T-Mobile in North SJ/Milpitas area? How is their coverage in general in bay area?
Also, do they have a trial period where if you don't like the service, you can quit without worrying about the contract?
Thanks

I tried it for a week right next to my Nokia 3650. It was almost unusable. Big dead spots all over the place and definitely do not consider putting this phone in your pocket as you will get no reception until you pull it out.
The Cingular/Tmobile network is already pretty flaky unless your in a flat area with plenty of towers around. Otherwise, you probably need an E715 or Nokia 3650 to get anything decent out of the service.
The only reason I stayed with Tmobile for a year is because of the price. 5000 anytime mins for $100 can't be beat. The only problem is that my phone is huge and cumbersome in order to get anything out of the network Cingular/Tmobile provide.

I have ATT GSM service with a SE T616 and it is horrible in the Saratoga-Cupertino Bay Area. It is awesome in southern Fremont though. I can even have conversations in elevators.
I'm about to switch since my contract expired yesterday. Does anyone want to buy my phone? I'll sell it for 100 bucks. Pretty darn good price for those who want to upgrade but don't want to pay the outrageous upgrade prices. It's in great condition. email me at teknopanda@yahoo.com
Also have a T68i to sell. 50 bucks OBO.

Since I travel the world, it's much easier and cost effective to swap SIM cards between providers rather than purchase a world-plan. No matter where I travel outside the US, I have crystal clear reception with my Sony Ericsson T-300. Yet, when I return to the states and drop in my T-Mobile card, reception is poor in San Francisco, Dallas and even my homeport of Newport News, VA. T-Mobile needs to spend less on advertisements and more on towers. They're big on making sales, not customers and you really have to read the fine line of their contracts. If you don't cancell within 30 days (no earlier, no later) of the end of your contract date, they will automatically extend your contract. Also watch out for ATT/SunCom as they too have similar rules.

I live in San Francisco and my reception is fine. i get perfect reception in the sunset district. i havent seen my reception in san jose yet. but yea, your reception also depends on what phone you have also. i use to own a samsung S105 and the reception wasnt all that great comapred to my E715. and keep in mind that both of those phones are from t-mobile. for some reason it seems as though that t-mobile has the best reception in san francisco than all the other phone companies. my siste has verison and she looses reception almost everywhere. when she's home, she has to leave her phone in the garage to get reception. my friend has AT&T and i can't hear him most of the times he call me and i know it's not my phone cuz i have 4-5 bars reception most of the times.
