I have been reading all of the T-mobile complaints, especially the college student JeepRuby101 who lives in a small town and does not have service. You can't get T-mobile service in a small, rural town? I live in the middle of a big city and I can't get service in my own home! Yet, T-mobile says I live in a "good" reception area. I told the representative that if this is a "good" area, I would hate to think what T-mobile considers a "poor" reception area.
After spending a miserable 12 months with T-mobile's poor service, I thought my contract would be up in April 2006. I had been counting the days (literally) for several months in anticipation of buying a cell phone I could actually use. Then I find I'm stuck with T-mobile until June 7, 2006. I don't think I can bear two more months of this. I told the representative I wasn't going to pay $200.00 blackmail to cancel now. Every day I have calls that are disconnected during my conversations, I am constantly frustrated because I can't hear the other party and they can't hear me. And, my cell phone number is the only phone number that I have on my business cards. You can imagine what this does for my business. T-mobile provides the worst service we have ever expirenced.
The first representative I spoke with was a very nice guy; he was very surprised and sympathetic when I told him it was 50 degrees here and I was standing out on the patio because I can't use my T-mobile phone in my house. I have 2 daughters with T-mobile phones who cannot use their phones in our house either. However, I must add, my husband and son both have Metro PCS cell phones and they have great reception in our home as well as all around the Sacramento area.
The most apalling thing about this whole problem is that when you purchace a service and a product with most cell phone companies they twist your arm and force you to sign a 1 to 3 year contract because they know their service is so poor you would never stay with them that long if you wern't locked in by this whopping fee to quit early. It's either that or you can't have a cell phone. By the way, Metro PCS not only has great service, but their customers are not required to sign a contract. The problem for me is that it is only local and I need my phone for traveling.

Sad story, but then it is stated that limited reception will happen in Homes, Vehicles and around some buildings. The manuals even tell you what to do in situations such as those listed above. You readily "blame" T-Mobile but you do not take into account a thousand other reasons why your reception might be suffering:
1. weather affects reception
2. buildings affects reception (if your house has Aluminum siding, foget it.. the signal is being reflected away, same with Stucco walls and most rebar concrete)
3. inside vehicles affects reception
4. your cell phone itself can be the cause of poor reception its antenna and receiver could be damaged (phone dropped too much)
5. the network could be a factor.. high load sometimes causes call drop off
6. It could be being Jammed.. hospitals do this, some movie theaters do this, it is called Signal Grounding or Blocking.
7.Electromagnetic interference affects cell phone reception.. do you have a relay or transformer near your house (from the electric company)
If your signal is good outside your house then your coverage area and network is likely not the problem.
Ever thought about buying an antenna signal booster a Passive Repeater? they are cheap and most work pretty well, you stick it on your houses window and Bang, you have reception.

Thanks for the tips bupahs, but first of all the problems are not limited to our home. On a daily basis, every phone call, whether to another cell or a land line, is interrupted with cutting out and is disconnected half the time. This is in Sacramento, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, Roseville, Rocklin, Orangevale, Folsom, Auburn, Grass Valley, Rancho Cordova, San Francisco, etc. And its with ALL of our T-mobile cell phones (different models, two of which problems started after the first month). So its not confined to our home, its just that that is the most frustrating part.
1. As far as weather, this problem occurs in every season.
2. Yes, there are buildings all over the Sacramento and surrounding areas, but our home does not have stucco walls or aluminum siding and strangely enough the only concrete is the patio and the front porch and those are the ONLY ares where we can get any reception. We still have garbled calls, but at least we can get a signal and make calls.
4. This has happend with new and old phones alike. We are talking about 4 or 5 different phones.
6. Our house is miles away from a hospital or movie theater.
Our problem is that our signal is not good everywhere in town including our home.
I think its clear that T-mobile is the problem. In this household, we also have 2 Metro PCS and 1 Verizon cell phones and all 3 get great reception in the house, as well as all around town.
Another thing, with all the different cell phones and companies we have had in the past we have never had a problem at home so, I don't see that its a problem in this area.
Thanks again for your tips but I don't think any of them apply to our situation. I hope they will help someone else. The only way out of our delimma is to go purchace another phone with a different provider to use, throw away my T-mobile phone, and just pay my last two months on my contract. That will cost less that the $200.00 fine for wanting to give up miserable service.

Well, if what you say is true it probably is the network then. Sorry to hear that.

We got a cell phone plan from T - Mobile and a nice cell phone came with the plan. We gave the cell phone to my brother. The cell phone has a one year warranty (the duration of the plan) for which we get to keep the phone after the warranty expires. Right now we have about 4 months before this particular contract expires but the phone broke about a month or two ago. My brother took very good care of the phone (he's an adult over 21 and he's VERY paranoid about taking care of his stuff). Before sending the phone in the company explained to my brother that if they determine the damage was my brother's fault they will charge him about $100 (it was a little more but it's the principle of the matter) and it will void the warranty. He was sure the damage wasn't his fault so he agreed. He sends the phone in and they send him a new one. Then they claimed the damage was caused by water (water damage). My brother explains that he never got the phone anywhere near moisture or water and they insist it was water damage and that it was his fault. So we ask them if they can explain how the technicians determined it was water damage. They didn't really answer the question (they didn't seem to know). So finally we asked to bargain with them, since we are sure the damage wasn't caused by water and they insisted it was, we would split the bill 50 / 50 . They refused. We finally asked if they can send back the original phone we sent them so we can have an independent technician look at it and see if water indeed caused the damage and we said that, if the independent technician determines it was caused by water damage (which we are sure he would determine not to be the case) we would pay. If not, we would not pay and possibly sue. They refused. We asked to speak to their legal department. They tell us that their legal department doesn't speak to customers. We haven't payed the bill yet and I'm not sure we really want to go through the trouble of suing since that may end up costing us much more than the bill is worth. We're not sure what we're going to do at this point but I am not very happy with their service to say the least.

I think it's just a problem with T-Mobile in your area and not T-Mobile as a whole. I was a Sprint customer for about a year, but after such horrible customer service and high unexplained charges on my bill, I switched to T-Mobile. I've been happy ever since.
Everytime I call with a complaint (about 3 times in 4 years), they always fix it. I got T-Mobile when I lived in Dallas, TX then I moved 300 miles away where you can't get T-Mobile (only Sprint and AT&T dealers here) and I still get awesome signal.
Every major provider is going to make you sign a contract and require a termination fee. It protects them as a business just like cable companies, gyms, apartments, etc.
