Just to add my experience to this, I called AT&T today (611) and the CSR said this can be done, but it has to be done by Tech Support. She opened a ticket with them for me and quoted the same 48-72 hours time-frame mentioned before. Guess we'll see come Monday if they are true to their word.

Called AT&T last week to have correct name displayed on landline caller id's for my 4 family talk plan. Since most caller id's only display 15 characters and my last name contains 11, I wanted first name initial, then last name displayed, they said it could be done. One of my phones is used by my in-laws and their name is less than the 15 characters allowed. That phone displays correctly, first name, last name. My phone still shows last name and a few characters of first name, my wife's phone shows first name and a few characters of my last name. Called back to get those 2 corrected and was told that it couldn't be done and that it HAD to be last name, first name. Talk about almost blowing a gasket! When they had first name, last name displayed on 2 of them. Guess I will call Tech Support!
