I just bought and downloaded the Mobile PhoneTools software off of the Motorola Website. I have edited and transferred the ringtones, but when they get on the phone, the ringtones sounds just awful. You can barely hear the lyrics or music. The ringtones is 32kbps, and I believe that is the problem, although, I'm not sure. The other Ringtone I got off of MEdia Net. It is encoded at 64kbps, and sounds beautiful. I was wondering if this was the problem and how I could fix it. If it isn't the problem, let me know, and hopefully I can do whatever to fix it.

Download http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (freeware) and change the bitrate to 64kbps.. and dont use MPT to edit the ringtones anymore.. just use it to transfer them

How do I do that? I downloaded Audacity and I also downloaded the LAME MP3 encoder. The maximum bitrate I could find was 32 kbps float. I have no idea what that is.

do this:
1. Start up Audacity
2. Select Edit
3. Select Preferences
4. Select File Formats Tab
5. At the bottom you will see BIT RATE: Set this to anything under 128, I usually use 112 for best sound on a mobile phone (My v360 is also an MP3 player with 512mb storage). for your phone 64 is best for full length MP3's on the razr because the saved MP3 will be under 1mb
6. Click OK
The settings will be saved for any MP3'S you edit from now on.
Have fun

Thanks so incredibly much! I am so excited to make my own ringtones instead of paying Cingular $2.50/ringtone. I can go on iTunes and buy almost three full-legnth songd for that!

There are alternate methods to audicity depending on how used to it you get, but one of my methods is with MP3 Cutter Joiner and Power Mp3 Cutter, Mp3 Cutter Joiner to convert and Power Mp3 Cutter to cut.
Settings:
1) 92 or 112kbps
2) 16bit
3) 44100hz
4) Mono Channel
5) under or around 30 seconds per clip
Other little guides and methods can be found on my site, an ad comes up when first loaded, just simply hit refresh and it will take you to CustoMoto, Enjoy!

I tried several, I find Audacity the best. You can record live feeds, streaming music (which is great for me since I listen to A LOT of internet radio). It does have a learning curve, but once you play with it awhile it cant be beat. It does far more than most shareware apps. And the new version is loaded with extras.. making it a border line pro app.

I make all of my ringtones anymore. A bit of searching on the net will get you hundreds of thousands of legal music files. (I stay away fromP2P networks.. virus, copyright problems.. they are not worth the trouble).
Play around with Audacity and you will find it a great tools. I converted all my Tapes and Records (yeah.. I am old emough to have them yet) to MP3 and burned them onto CD's, then made a ton of ringers LOL

Sorry to bring this back up, but I was on vacation, and I just now had the chance to do this again, and when I go to Audacity, I change the bitrate to 112kbps, and 16 bit. It still sounds the same when I transfer it to my phone from MPT. What is going on?!?!?!

Also, after I transfer it, it still says 32kbps on my phone! I have no idea why it's doing this!
