Had my N70 for a couple of days and I'm still learning the ropes. However one thing that keeps bugging is whenever I come out of an application I get the message "Sim card registration failed". I'm with Virgin Mobile and although the message doesn't seem to affect the phone's operation it's becoming quite irritating. Any ideas?

in a broad sense a registration failure (regardless of carrier) is the sim not passing authentication and the device *should* be rendered useless... where you are still able to use the device that would indicate to me a possible corrupt sim card.. or the device not correctly reading the sim.... call your wireless provider and have it checked out

Might also be that information is not being transmitted to the tower, so no authentication is going throug. This can happen when your phone is locked to a specific tower (small technical problem) and all you have to do is power cycle the device.
However, in this sense when you're exiting an application and it gives you that error message... might be a software issue not transmitting or misreading incoming information.

The problem is an intermittent one so might it suggest a corrupt Sim?

it could also be just the way the card is seated in the device... try removing the sim... and replacing it... ensure when you put it back that it is in all the way... we are dealing with tolerances measured in microns...

One thing I forgot to mention. The N70 handbook calls for the insertion of a (U)Sim as opposed to a Sim. Could this present a problem?

Try this work-around: use a pencil... use the rubber end, rub the metalic strips on the SIM card. There maybe a poor connection. It fixed my problem with my Nokia 6600. Good luck!

The error was subsequently found to be a faulty phone and I am currently waiting for a replacement from Nokia. Thanks everybody for your interest.
