Could it be you've something installed on your memory card which interferes with it?

I meant: there could be a program installed which interfers with the operating system.

Well ok, if you tried allready without the memory card than it's to bad.

I don't think it's a glitch that can be repaired at home.

well, re-formatting would help, i'm sure, coz right after i deleted some files from system\data i couldn't access options and sms's. it would at least fix this issue, if not the rebooting too.
but the format procedure for 6600 and 6620 doesn't work, and my phone says it is 6620.

Than why does the topic says "panasonic x700"???

A deep reset completely gets the system re-installed, everything is brand new (but the memory card remains untouched).

sorry, i thought you knew already, panasonic x700 has the 6620 symbian, coz nokia provided panasonic with the software (i think), and that's waht my phone says about itself (it thinks it's a nokia icon_biggrin.gif) that's why i'm so intrigued coz the green+*+3 procedure doesn't work icon_smile.gif

Ah ok.

It uses Symbian OS 7 (like the 6600, 6620, 7610 and some other phones), so the green+*+3 pressing and than booting should work.

no, that doesn't work icon_smile.gif

**7370# worked and i got it formatted, only now... my phone seems so reboot or hang (hangs mostly) out of the blue, and sometimes when it hangs the keyboard light is on and if i don't check it often i find the phone warm and battery almost empty icon_smile.gif

one question... when formatting with 7730 the actual formatting is done before the phone reboots or after? coz when i entered the code the phone started to shutdown, but not completely, it just hung with the keyboard light on and the screen white and i left it like that for 10-15 mins, thinking it was formatting, but then i got bored and took the battery off.
when it started it was formatted, but i'm not sure its fully formatted icon_smile.gif

so once again, **7370# is the format code for panasonic x700 and x800, if anybody wants to know.

Never ever take the battery out while formating !

It does exactly what you discribe, it stays on and when the formatting is complete it powers up completely.

You should repeat the procedure and this time don't interrupt it. It can take several minutes, even up to 15 and more.
And make sure the battery is completely loaded and you should connect the charger (just in case).
More than 45 min are a good sign that something is wrong.
