Tutorial for using FlashBackup and Scotty2's v2 Boot Loader Downgrade

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

I have written this tutorial after consultation with Motocat in an attempt to clear up a few grey areas. Any mistakes, however, are all mine. There have been a lot of bricked phones lately, seemingly as a result of using FlashBackup.

Firstly let's discuss Scotty2's v2 Boot Loader downgrader.

THIS PROGRAM CAN ONLY BE USED TO DOWNGRADE FROM B/L 8.26 to
B/L 07.D0

This is an excellent program which I think has been misused because people
mistakenly believe that they have B/L 8.26 on their phone.
Let me point out something here.
If your phone came with B/L 8.23 and you flash a Monster Pack labelled with
B/L 8.26 YOU HAVE NOT UPGRADED YOUR BOOT LOADER TO 8.26 IT IS STILL 8.23. This is where, I believe, the confusion arises.

If you have 8.26 you can use Scotty2's v2 program to downgrade to 07.D0

If you have 8.23 or older you should just flash R374_V3BL_07.D0 to your phone to downgrade. This can be found in the Scotty2 downgrader thread, the first link. Don't use other 07.D0 bootloaders as they might give you a white screen on your V3.

FlashBackup

This program will back up your phone's memory.
There are 3 choices of backup.

1) B/L backup
2) PDS backup
3) FULL backup

In any case the following settings should be used for the V3.

First select Backup type
Then select phone memory size as 32MB
Then check box to disable compression
Then at Select Loader, from the drop down box hit Select Another
Browse to the location of the FlashBackup program file and open RamDld Pack
And select 32MB (08A0).ldr
Then just hit Create.

A B/L or PDS backup should take about 15 seconds
A FULL backup should take about 4 – 5 minutes.

Please remember that in order to restore any backup made by FlashBackup you MUST have B/L 07.D0 installed.

Be advised that even though FlashBackup may have made good backups of your phone you may possibly have a problem restoring to the phone. Some users have had problems with the USB port configuration and/or USB and P2k driver issues. If you are trying to restore the PDS backup and it takes more than 15 seconds to complete then you may indeed have this USB problem.

Here is more information on the FlashBackup USB problem.
http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=8525

(This USB problem can also appear when using Scotty2 v2 downloader program when the process seems to leave a dead phone but the remedy here is to just re-flash the firmware to the phone.)

It is advisable to run each backup a couple of times and store each set seperately. You can change the backup save location in the FlashBackup Setup Menu.

Happy Modding.

Better not to restore with FlashBackup as it can "hang" after it erases the PDS. It's better to make a third backup in the custom range and make your own custom monster pack following the folowing guide.

I' m following the tutorial on unlocking my V3 for my firlfriends phone. Unfortunately the Boot loader is report as 0a.52. I don't know whether its safe to use the Scotty program as the above states :

THIS PROGRAM CAN ONLY BE USED TO DOWNGRADE FROM B/L 8.26 to
B/L 07.D0

Can the Scotty one be used for this as I can't find any others anywhere so far through googling ? help much appreciated.

I do have another phone on 08.26

The 0a.52 is not a V3. It may be a v3r - anyway you can't unlock with only software (i.e. you need to testpoint)
