From the stand by screen, press the Menu key.

Scroll to "Settings", then press Select.

Scroll to "Security", then press Select.

Scroll to "Lock Application",

Scroll to "Browser", then press Select.

select lock

scroll to MMS or multimedia messaging and select lock

and if you want to lock out text messaging do the same....

from this menu you can enable or disable just about anything on the phone... the three I mentioned are the major ones

Your phone's 4-digit unlock code is originally set to 1234, and the 6-digit security code is originally set to 000000

I would also suggest you change the security codes of the phone to something other than the default

To all you AT&T/Cingular Customer Care reps:

On Thursday I called in to Blue side customer service to try and get some things straightened out on my mom's GoPhone account. After accomplishing that, the rep informed me that the AT&T GoPhone plans were being discontinued in September, with the last top-up day would be Aug 31. She also told me that my mom is supposed to be receiving a flyer in the mail informing us of such. icon_neutral.gif

Now I know that all of the K-I-C and Free-2-Go TDMA plans were going to go away when that network goes off line in Feb' 08, but I did not think that they would discontinue a GSM plan. icon_twisted.gif

Is any of this true? Or is it another attempt to get AT&T customers to switch by selecting some arbitrary date to tell everyone "ok, now you have to migrate or else"??

I mean there is nothing wrong with the old Blue SIMs and phones, they are just a little older, and now with the "GOLD" network in place (at least in this area) coverage is even better. So what gives? icon_blink.gif

I realize that Cingular wants Blue customers off their plans (even AT&T GoPhones) b/c they had better deals, but is that the only reason? Will the old phone+plan simply stop working after September or what? icon_confused.gif

Sorry for the long post and so many questions, but I am curious.icon_rolleyes.gif
Thanks in advance for all you help.

it's true... they are retiring that billing macro... offering new phone for next to nothing... for reasons of continuity they want all the prepaid people in the same computer...look at former ATT there are 3 prepaids on the go...this way the reps will be better able to handle a less diverse product base (less to learn)

from a business standpoint it makes a lot of sense... from a consumers standpoint you get a phone for next to nothing and your balance will be transferred to the new acct if there is any...

Ok, thanks a lot elmo. Just a couple more questions:

Do you know when we should expect the flyers to be coming in the mail?

Would you happen to know what phones they will be offering former AT&T GoPhone customers?

I would also assume this means that a new SIM card would be required.

If so, how would we go about moving the numbers from one SIM to the other?
Would some one at a store be able to do that, or do we need one of those devices of eBay that saves SIMs?

Will the flyer tell us how to go about migrating properly to take advantage of the free phone offer, and if so, does that mean going to a store, or over the phone?

Also, BTW, what 3 prepaids of the old AT&T were you referring to? I only know of 2, Free-2-Go and GoPhone.

Again, sorry about all of the questions, I just want to make sure I have all the bases covered.

all of your questions will be answered at this contact number... 877-707-9203

the flyers were mailed to the last known address of the prepaid customer... where a prepaid customer doesnt get a bill more often than not the mailing address isnt kept up to date

the new phone will come with a SIM... the transfer of the phonebook can be done manually... *some* stores have the ability to to the transfer (but not all... at bare minimum they will ensure that you at least know how to do the phonebook entry

the 3 prepaids were AT&T Free2Go (most common TDMA prepaid), old prepaid local or national (still a few but not many) and gophone

Background:
A few weeks back, I was planning to order a Samsung ZX-10 from the Cingular web site, which worked out to be a pretty good deal when combined with the employer discount they also had. I waited until my day off so I could order it on my own time and discovered that I couldn't access the employer discount page from home so I'd have to wait until Monday when I returned to work. The phone rep can give me a link that will work from home, but will only mail it to my work email. Grrr. But whatever, I can wait. Then on Monday I go to place my order from work, and the ZX-10 deal has been replaced by some other phone deal. Damn, but I figured I'd keep my eye out for any new deals on it or any other phones I liked.

So here's the thing: within another week or so, the ZX-10 stopped being listed on the web site at all. And there's no other Cingular flip phones listed that had quad band, MP3, microSD and a 1+MP camera/video (my main desired features). Now most of the phones I see listed for Cingular seem sort of last-generation compared to what I see available for Verizon, etc.

I did some digging, and read that the ZX-10 is discontinued and a ZX-20 is coming out. That would explain it, except that I put in the zip code for my old residence (Boston, MA - I live inOrlando, FL now) and it still shows the ZX-10! And it also shows the LG CU500, another phone I'm interested in.

Why would the ZX-10 be offered in my area and then removed? Why isn't the CU500 available for me? If it's a data network thing - I don't really care about data network features, but in any case I thought I saw something saying Orlando was upgrading in July.

A few more questions: any idea if/when the ZX-20 or RAZR V3i or any or the newer razors might become available for me? Is there any way I can find this out?

Thanks!
