boring night...i've been checking out the government of china websites...found a recipe...thought i'd share...looks good. if you have any good ones, you should post them.
Stir Fried Chicken with Peanuts
Chicken marinade:
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine or dry sherry wine
1 teaspoon Oriental sesame oil
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh ginger
1 pound boneless, skinned chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
Seasonings: (or you can choose your own vegetables
6 dried Chinese mushrooms
6 snow peas
2 scallions, white and green part, sliced
Sauce:
1/2 cup chicken broth, either homemade or low sodium canned
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1-1/2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine or dry sherry wine
1 teaspoon Oriental sesame oil
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons vegetable oil, preferably peanut
1/2 cup unsalted dry-roasted peanuts
Combine marinade ingredients in a bowl. Add chicken. Marinate, covered, at room temperature 30 minutes or refrigerate overnight. Combine sauce ingredients in a 1-cup liquid measuring cup. Soak the Chinese dried mushrooms in hot water for 20 minutes, discard stems, and slice into thin strips. Remove strings from snow peas and cut them in half diagonally. Organize all ingredients near stove. Heat a wok or large skillet until hot. Add oil; heat until ripples form. Stir-fry chicken over high heat until pieces turn white, about 1-1/2 minutes. With slotted spoon, remove to toweling to drain. There should be 1 tablespoon oil left in wok; if not add fresh oil. Reheat oil and add seasonings. Stir fry over high heat 15 seconds. Add sauce; stir-fry until mixture is thickened. Add chicken and peanuts; toss lightly to coat. Serve immediately. Serves 6 if part of a meal with other courses or 2 to 3 as a main course.

another quick but awesome thing i like to make are noodle bowls.
what you need:
meat/tofu
bottled sweet and sour sauce
rice vermicelli/chinese egg noodles
canned broth
vegetables
cook it all, the put noodles in bowl, cover with broth, put meat/tofu and vegetables on top, the put sauce over. VH makes some pretty good ones.

I guess things are being reversed and becoming more common now...the women don't need to learn how to cook, but the men do. I wish my g/f knew how to cook something. She says that she only knows how to bake cookies & bread...but they aren't that great . Ah well...tried this version of Mongolian beef that I got off about.com. A little bland, but still alright.
INGREDIENTS:
1 lb sirloin or flank steak
Marinade:
1 egg white
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Vegetables:
4 green onions, sliced on the diagonal into 1-inch pieces
1 8-ounce can baby corn
1 garlic clove, minced
Sauce:
3 TB hoisin sauce
2 TB water
1 TB dark soy sauce
2 tsp rice vinegar, or 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
1/4 tsp chile paste, or to taste
Other:
1 tsp sugar
1 cup oil for frying beef
2 TB oil for stir-frying
Slice the beef across the grain into thin strips. Add the marinade ingredients in the order given and marinate the beef for thirty minutes. To prepare the vegetables, wash the green onions and slice on the diagonal into 1-inch pieces. Peel and mince the garlic. Rinse the can of baby corn with warm running water. Drain thoroughly. Mix together the sauce ingredients and set aside.
When the beef has finished marinating, heat the wok and add 1 cup oil. When oil is ready, add the beef and fry until it changes color. Remove the beef from the wok and drain on paper towels.
Clean out the wok with a paper towel, and add 2 tablespoons of oil for stir-frying. When the oil is ready, add the garlic. Stir-fry briefly, and add the baby corn. Add the green onions.
Make a well in the middle of the wok by pushing the vegetables up to the side. Add the sauce and bring to a boil, stirring to thicken.
Stir in the sugar. Add the beef and combine with the sauce and vegetables.
Also, are there any other sushi bars other than Tsunami Sushi in downtown Vancouver? I'm planning a trip in a few days. Going to a couple of places...as long as the last stop is Goldilocks...brownies & bibingka.

Fried Rattlesnake <Sioux Style>
1 medium rattlesnake skinned and cut into 2 inch chunks
2 cups of cornmeal (yellow)
1&1/2 cups of flour (all purpose not self rising)
1 12 oz can of budwieser
1/2 cup of buttermilk
Salt and pepper
Deep cast iron cooker filled 1/3 of way up with Canola Oil
mix cornmeal,salt,pepper,flour beer and buttermilk togther in a large bowl
dip snake filets in mixture and drop gently into the hot oil for about 4 minutes
drain well on paper towels
drizzle with hot salsa and jalepeno slices
mmmmmmmmmmmmm

OK, I somtimes cook, but only when I'm in the mood... than I go to the supermarket and look what's there and get inspired while shopping.

No way. Snake is actually pretty good. Last time I ate brown tree snake was a long time, though. I even tried fruit bat, or sometimes called Fanihi...that was good. One I will never try again is dog. Eeeyach!

Never tried bat......but an indian steak is my favorite.......you get a roll of bologna and cut 1 inch thick slices and fry it with onions and mushrooms untill it bows up like a little bowl? Then you put ice cold potato salad in the blogna bowl and garnish with cold tomato slices and the fried onions and mushrooms......and of course good fresh frybread on the side..
