Do you not have the settings>personalise>home screen>home keys>icons option? If you do set it to hide - otherwise post back and I am sure someone more familiar with the phone will answer.

Hum, all of the Motorola L6's I have ever seen have the hide icon menu, its not something service providers block. The very top middle button is the menu option, then go to settings, then go to home keys then icons.
Here is the manual http://direct.motorola.com/manuals/30333_981_ENG.pdf page 70 tells you exactly what to do

You could try SEEM 0032_0001 offset 6C -
bit 3: BLOCK/LIMIT: Settings > Personalize > Home Screen > Home Keys (limited), Layout (blocked) (1 on, 0 off - set to 0 to UNBLOCK/UNLIMIT these features)

I tried doing what you've suggested (editing seem) and it unfortunately won't work. Any other ideas? Thank you for your help. My L6 was bought in UK if that's any help.
Thanks.

I have the same problem as you but I use a mac so it's very hard for me to find how to get rid of the left side icons on the L6 Menu. So if anyone could help. I think I need to delete the synerJ application. Can anyone verify this and tell me how to do it using OS X
