I got it to work - as mentioned above I checked the box that says open up as read only in Quick Time - (I also reinstalled Quick Time first) - the other thing that happened was I got a message on my laptop about the phone and I had to allow it - I never got that before - but the bottom line is IT WORKS PERFECT and the quality of the ringtone is far superior to an mmf THANKS! You know after all the hassle of converting to MMF or 3GP I just discovered Phonezoo - free MP3 ringtones. I have T-Mo and unlimited messaging but do not pay for T-Zones. When I send a free ringtone to my phone from Phonezoo (and there are some pretty decent ones) I get an MMS message and go to the WAP site and download the MP3 and it goes to my sound folder and can be set as a ringtone. Why this is - I have no clue - but for T-Mo members you might want to try it! DonnaB

Hi i have a T509s and it won't play mp3s as a ringtone, which i figured out already. But i downloaded an mp3 from the provider service on my phone, and it will play that one as a ringtone. Whats the difference between the two?

The difference is the one you download from T-Mo is unlocked. I posted on this thread 2 years ago and it is still going! I still have the T509. Anyhow here is my latest way to use Mp3s as ringtones that sound almost as good as the ones you pay for.
1. Go to http://media-convert.com
2. Convert your MP3 to an MMF/SMAF-3
3. Email to phone and save to sound file
It sounds ok - funny I tried the .3gp conversion and it put it in the video folder so I couldn't use it as a ringtone and it sounded awful. DonnaB
