I have been reading up on the t809 thread and 2 methods seem to work in order to set an mp3 as an incoming call ringtone:
1) simply rename the .mp3 extension to .3gp and then send the file via bluetooth
2) By Matttmob:
| Quote: |
Menu
Settings
Sound Settings
incomming call
Ring Tone
(scroll to the ring tone you want that is a full MP3)
Hit Select (the Red dot that would normally come up showing the file is selected will not display)
hit back
hit save button
go back into incloming call and MP3 will be saved. |
Please can anyone confirm if either of these methods also work on the t509? Thanks [/quote]

I hope the mp3 workaround works ... I'm thinking of getting this phone to replace my old SLVR L7 which has no EDGE. If the t509 can play mp3s, with a little workaround, I'd go for the trade in. It makes sense though - I mean its got 70 MBmemory and can play video with sound, but not sound alone???

I tried both these methods in-store today and they didn't work. I settled for the razr (i still want a sony ericsson so bad). samsung's mac support and all the drm crap really stinks

Ok guys - I am a little old lady and this worked for me.
If any of you have a Samsung T509 and try to wap, email or bluetooth an MP3 to your phone you will not be able to use it as a ringer. Believe me I have tried. So after much fiddling around I figured out how to get around the T-Mo or Samsung restriction that requires you to download ringtones from T-Mo and (gasp) pay for them. (midi files can be emailed to your phone and then set as ringtone or caller ringtone but mmf cannot be emailed to your phone - the attachment is dropped as is MP3).
1. Trim your Mp3 - I use a program called Mp3 trim (free)
2. Convert to Wav - I use a program called Streambox ripper (free)
3. Convert Wav to MMF - I use a program called PMS Play 4.5 (free)
4. Bluetooth from your computer (must have bluetooth adapter of course) to your phone using the free Samsung software on their website for the T509 called Pim File Manager 2.0
5. The quality is not as good as Mp3 but better than nothing
If anyone out there has an easier solution let me know as I am not that computer literate. DonnaB

I also discovered if you rename your mmf to .mid and email to your phone it shows up as available to set as a ringtone too. DonnaB

Hey... I ment to post this yesterday and completely forgot. I think it was Tux there who gave this link (if not I do apologize, credit is due for this find fer sure) Anyhow.. this is the best/easiest way I have found yet. download this http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/dl.php?ocid=wscma2s210 .. then convert your .wav to .mmf... then follow DDLB's suggestion and simply rename your converted file to whatever.mid.... attach it and email it to phone... thats it.. no extra's do's and dont's... its that simple.
(again .. kudo's to all those involved in the aforementioned)

crow the link u posted up works but the sound quality is a bit low once you convert it.... but something is better than having to pay for a ringtone! thanks guys!
