After 10 years with the old ATT Wireless, I guess that it is time to give up on the Cingular. Without going into a long list of issues, they are just not as good. We let them have a shot, but...
Any reason not to consider a switch?

Everyone that I talk to that has either Verizon or Tmobile is happy with the coverage locally. It appears that Tmobile has great roaming agreements, unlike Cingluar. I don't travel much, so...

1) According to GSMWorld Tmobile has agreements with over 40 GSM providers in the US. Cingular lists none.
2) Cool phones - Who cares if customer service is a problem. A Nokia 6102 from Cingular uses the same technology as a Nokia 6101 from Tmobile.
3) Rollover - we are on a family plan and don't use the minutes we have now. The plan from Tmobile saves a $100 a month over the ATT one that we are on now.
4) International - Get an unlocked phone and go buy an prepaid orange sim card. Saves one heck of a lot of $$.
5) Phone swapability - Tmobile and Cingular share the same technology, same thing is available with Tmobile.
6) 3G is all about multimedia. - Who cares if the Customer Service is a real problem.
Cingular had a chance to capture the market with ATT. The fact that they are driving old ATT customers away will cost them in the long run.
Thanks for you input and the more I think about it, there really is now reason to consider Cingular. Tmobile here I come!!

Just to let you know before you go to Tmobile. Cingular has spectrum on both the 850 and 1900 bands. Tmobile only has 1900. The 850, while being the older tech. has a longer range and is better at penetrating buildings. Tmobile needs roaming agreements because they lack their own infastructure. Think about that before switching because those roaming agreements can end at any time. Meaning your coverage is bound to always be changing. I had a friend switch over to Cingular from Tmobile and he says the difference is like night and day. If the prices are your main reason for switching over then I can understand, but remember, the reason they have a lack of infastructure might be bacause of the cheap prices, and if you have a bunch of cheap minutes it wont help you if you cant use them. You may want to hold back on your decision until this next spectrum licensing auction is done. I hear Tmobile is making a grab which hopefully for them will give them the ability to start their 3g rollout, along with higher quality coverage. If so, then maybe Tmobile is the choice for you. Let us know how you like the switch.

Responding to Wrangler's comments. T-Mobile DOES have 850. In fact they expected their national footprint by 56 percent last year alone. Much of that was due to 850 roaming agreements.
If in doubt about coverage, best thing to check is T-Mobile's Personal Coverage Check feature on its Web site. You can find coverage strength at any specific address in the U.S. No other carrier lets you check this detailed info out from your home, or from any internet connection.

You can also look at www.gsmworld.com to find out just who Tmobile has roaming with. If we are too believe this industry organziation, that all major carriers belong to, then there is an urban myth out there. Tmobile does NOT have roaming with Cingular. There are about 40 other roaming agreements that do indeed have 850.
