Boy where does Cingular get off?
We have had contract with old ATT for almost 2 years. I call into to Cingluar customer service to get a phone unlocked. Told them that I was making trip to Europe and wanted to use the orange system there.
The CS rep understood exactly what I was asking for and then put be on hold for 10 minutes while she researched. Came back that the would not help me unless I switched to a Cingular account.
This is complete BS, how does one relate to the other? All I wanted was to unlock an existing phone and they turn around and try to make me sign a new 2 year deal.
Would they provide me with unlocked phones if I did sign a 2 year deal? We all know the answer to that, right.
Final straw with them.

well fisrt of all the company formaly known as aats NEVER gave out unlock codes , and cingular DOESNOT hove those unlock codes
secondly there is NO orange network in europe
if you wanted to get an unlock code you would either have to migrate then request it , find it yourself for your blue phone, or buy a new unlocked phone

Russ... Be careful... there isa a carrier in europe called orange...
the term you are looking for there is no cingular network in europe
orange and blue internally mean a lot to you and me... but orange in europe means another thing entirely

and this is kinda a double post. basically you'd need to sign a new contract to get a phone that they can unlock. or buy a cingular-branded phone at full price to avoid the waiting period.
this thread should probably be closed 'cause i hate checking two threads for the same posts.

Why making a big deal over just getting unlock codes? Find someone in your area online to generate them. I know at least 1 person in WA, OR, and CA that does it for free. And if you can't find any services for free, it's just $3 - $5 that you'll be paying. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Also in some case the manufacture can unlock the phone. But Customer must contact with imei (serial number) for the phone, as well as when the bought it...That is an option I give to customer that where/are with the old att equip.
