You obviously don't know much about technology. Don't you think it would be kind of dumb on Cingular's part to unlock a phone for you? Then their technology would be vulnorable to other companies who would like to steel it. This is why ALL carriers are like that. NO carrier is going to unlock a phone for you for that particular reason. They each have their own technology to try and stay ahead of the competition. I work for Cingular and know this for a fact. The only place you will find unlock codes is on the internet and you have to pay for them. Who garantees that those will even work?

if you work for cingular, check CSP #3125 and it will show you when we unlock phones. it's not because we have certain technology that others don't. t-mobile runs on the same GSM technology as cingular. we aren't trying to hide anything here.
the reason we lock phones is because we give them away at a discounted price or free in return for a contract. the contract helps recover costs of this discounted phone. so people can't get the phone and run, we have the subisdy code so there's not much point.

steeling technology uh they "technology" is from the manufactures, and usualy most carriers have teh same phone w/ a few diferances so theres not "theft" of technology w/ unloking phones

I can not send the receipt due to me already being out of the country. I have been for the last 3 weeks. This has been going on for the last 2. I have told this to them and they asked me if someone at home could send it to me/them. Well for someone like me I don't have anyone at home. You know there are still some of us (lonely, pathic, non-family) people out there. I am not due back for another 8 weeks so where does that leave me? On my way to call corp. office for something as simple as a code that they owe me anyway.

Does anyone know why my post was deleted? This really sucks that they would do that. I thought that I actually had a problem that someone could help me with without going higher up.

Sometimes you don't really need the receipt to get unlock codes. You can do the "I'm going out of the country" thing, or state your current situation...there might be an exception. Also outside of procedure, they might ask you for the IMEI number (sometimes that's what you just need). They fill out a form for you, them boom...in a few days you got the unlock codes via email. Cingular has great customer service, you just need to be patient because Customer Care doesn't know what exactly is going on until they find out themselves.
Also, Cingular is being proactive and seems to be...ahem..."rasing the bar" in terms of customer service. Above of having calls being recorded, you are now asked if you would like to fill out a survey to rate your experience with Cingular. Just like what Nokia does.

when you first log in to CSP, in the bottom left-hand corner, there's a field where you can search by ID #...just punch in 3125 into that field and it will bring up the proper solution.
the other thing is to just type "subsidy unlock" in the search field and the first solution that comes up is the one you want.

Actually, Cingular can provide you with the unlock codes. If you purchase a device at full retail price and have proof of purchase.
Hence (like steva said), reference # 3125.
