We just got verizon service yesterday. We are getting no bars in our near our home. We are within the coverage area for verizon tower service. Sometimes the phone shows 1 bar, but it doesn't last.
We are getting choppy calls after a minute or so.. ?? Anyway to improve this?
can we upgrade the firmware on phone?
Also on our phone we have settings - system - system select- Set mode = automatic b or automatic a or Home only. It is set on Automatic b. Do we need to change this for better service. What does each mode mean?
What does the 1RX for 1X-RTT coverage area mean?
The manual says nothing about any of these...
on the Razr V3c phone, I can't find feature for changing brightness? or changing colors on screen or moving item on screen etc? and I can't get phone to both ring and vibrate?

I don't want to use hacking software. Don't trust them and wouldn't want my phone to not work because of it.
Is there a software update I can get from a Verizon store?
Anyone else having problems with signal strength?? They told us there wasn't anything they could do, that we would have the 15 days to bring in phones and get refund etc. Why do they even sell in our area if they want us to do this???

Any help with signal strength? Done PRL update earlier, and try to do one recently and I get US cellular person saying can't continue call etc. Why won't the *228 work?

It sounds to me like you are roaming on US Cellulars network for the time being if you tried to do a *228 and their netowork responded. If you are in a verizon area where new towers were just launched, you might have to give them time to do some twiking on the towers for optimal signal/RF, sometimes that happens. You can also call verizon tech support and inform them of the lack of service in your area, especially if you are in vicinity of a verizon tower and the signal is still low. It could be a tower problem. I might also suggest if U.S. cellular works in your area, take the verizon phones back and go with them if you are still within your 15 day period.

15 days is over. We decided to live with the zero to 1 bar. But, we did find out that just a few blocks away, there is 3 bars, and full bars just 1/2 mile away from our home. I can't believe there is that much difference in a few blocks. ?? we can call out most of the time and people can reach us fine, but if someone calls from a very remote place and at times our phone just drops, but we decided to live with it. I think its just strange that we don't get better bars when others near us have good bars.
We didn't want cellular since they don't offer the nationwide in our area. and don't have as much nationwide coverage that verizon does.
We contacted verizion soon after posting and was told we'd get a call back from tech, but never did. I guess I don't want to call back and get bad news. They said they may have tower trouble or may be putting more towers in our area at some point and would call.
