Scratches on yhour screen are only natural. The only way to keep it from being scratched would be to place it in bubble wrap.

Are the scratches on the actual lcd display or just the screen of the cover?

If there are scratches on your cover, then use toothpaste. No, I'm not joking. IT acts as a buffer to make the scratches less noticable, and makes your phone smell minty fresh......
NB: When I say screen below, I mean the screen of the cover, not the lcd display.
Just remove the front cover and using a cloth, (preferably a microfibre cloth, but if you don't have one, then use a lint free cloth such as satin),wet the screen (of the cover). NOw apply a small ammount of toothpaste to the screen (both sides) and using the cloth, rub around in circles around the scratches.
When you're finished, apply more water to wash the toothpaste off, and dry off your cover.
