I was wondering if anyone went through getting unlocking codes from Cingular reps.
Here is my story: I got a phone locked to AT&T and I want to use it with my Cingular simcard. But since AT&T no longer exists they can't unlock the phone. So I went to Cingular (physically) and asked to what I should do. They told me since they can't take the simlocks off I should contact the manufacturer directly. So I did. But they told me on the other hand that they are legally bound by a contract with service providers and once they sell the phones they cannot unlock them. So back to Cingular. I called theuir 1800 number and they told me (after half an hour of persuasion) that I should get the code in my email within 5 business days.
So a weeks has passed and nothing. We call Cingular again and the rep tell us that whoever told us we would get the code gave a wrong information (???)
So what do I do now?
I mean how can 3 people within the same company be on a different page? Not only wasting my time but misinforming me?
Cingular has terrible customer service.
Any ideas what I should do next?

When att was purchased Cingular didn't receive the subsidy unlock codes for the phone...therefore Cingular can't unlock any equipment for old att...One option that I have seen works is to go to the Manufacture...90% they can get the code for you? What type of phone is it? Nokia cant get subsidy's for their phones from 2004 till...sometype of issue.

It is a Sony Ericsson T68i.
I already called Sony Ericsson and they said they can't do it because they are legaly bound by a contract and the rep on the phone said she didn't have access to codes. Maybe that wasn't true, I don't know.
Should I try to call them again?

OK, I called Sony Erisccon again and got the same response. They don't have the codes.
So what do I do now?
Any suggestions?
Maybe some links to third parties that can do it cheap?

Well as a Cingular rep I was told that we don't have access to those codes and we redirect the request (which we fill a form out) which then gets sent to the manufacture then is sent back to us

Yeah, they told me (Cingular) that they can put a request into the system for me and get back to me within five days. But they never did. So I called them again. Heard the same story. I'll se if they come back to me this time. They better do because otherwise I'm taking my money elsewhere.
But, if they don't, I'm still stuck with a locked phone...

we don't unlock AWS phones, only cingular-branded phones. I 've never heard of the manufacturer giving out the code. people always get the same response you did, so we do not inform anyone to go to the manufacturer.
the ONLY way you're oing to get your phone unlocked is going through the internet or a local dealer to unlock it. cingular and SE won't do it.

OK, thanks for filling me in.
Any idea who I can go to?
Is it possible to unlock that phone (SE T68i) using a code? Or do I need a cable and software to do that. I'm trying to google that but I can't find an answer.

sometimes, even a local vendor will be able to do it for you.
