I just got the vx8300. It's better than the 8100! I didn't think it was possible. I haven't had it more than a day, but I haven't had a problem. The accessories are different. The battery is the same. Same interface and user friendliness icon_smile.gif . More solid and it is quite a bit thinner than the 8100.

I hope you like it as much as I do when you get it!

I absolutely love it, not one thing wrong with it for the two weeksI've had it. Got 4 of them for $25 a piece from Verizon.

I upgraded our two Verizon phones about one week ago. I was deciding between three phones, the 8300, the Moto E815 and the Razr v3m.

What won it for the 8300 was:

- Solid build quality - gives me confidence, less worry if one drops it, long lasting. It's simply well put together.
- Ease of use - everything is where it should be and the learning curve is small. Even my gadget-challenged wife has picked it up with ease. She also loves the looks, which encourages her to play with it.
- Phone function - call sound quality is excellent, good phone signal, mp3s sound very good (I'm a Mac guy so I switched the phone from wma to mp3; don't think one can do that on the Razr v3m, and I don't know about the E815), battery life is great.
- The way it feels in my hand. It just fits and I can do everything with one hand.

While the Razr is a great looking phone, the 8300 is no ugly duckling and it fits easily into my pocket. I think the E815 looks a bit long in the tooth.

Finally, much of the research I did pointed to fairly serious problems with the Razr. While at least some of those problems have been fixed by now, I have had terrific success with LG phones (VX4400 and TM510 previously) all along. The E815 has a good reputation.

Frankly, they're all good phones, but for the above reasons, I bought two 8300's.

Farewell!

Love the post on reasons why the LG VX8300 was the better buy than the Razr. I was having problems deciding which of those two to get. Now I know icon_biggrin.gif The LG VX8300.

One thing, I read in a post that one can mod the phone so it plays mp3's instead of wma's. I'm a Mac gal and would love to learn how to change the phone over. I'm going on Monday to get my new LG VX8300.

I'm a Mac man. Here's a bunch of stuff I've cobbled together...

Step by step to enable mp3: Two part process.
To enable outside phone buttons to play mp3:
From main screen press OK and then the number 0 seven times (you’ll see a series of question marks disappear). Then scroll all the way down and press #11 (Music Setting). Finally, choose My mp3.

To get MP3s to play, including ringtones – Press OK (Menu) and go to Settings and Tools, press 5 (phone settings), press 2 (shortcut key), press 5 (play key), and choose my mp3s.

I found a program to easily make ringtones, Audacity, which is compatible for both Mac and Windows. And it's small and free.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (For Macs.)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/ (For Windows.)

And to save your audio to MP3, you'll need to download a small, free program, which then works in tandem with Audacity.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/hel...l&item=lame-mp3

It works beautifully. It's also pretty easy to learn and use.

Here's a step-by-step to make ringtones for you 8300:

I drag the song to my desktop, open Audacity and choose File and Open, and select the song (I have the song file in AIFF). I then use the selection tool (top left corner, looks like a capital "I") to select the portion of the song I want, or I put the cursor where I want the portion to end and go to Edit, Select, and choose one of the options. I then go to File and Export Selection As MP3. I save it to my desktop.
I then open my email program (Entourage - Mac) and attach the file and send it to my tendigitcellnumber@vzwpix.com
Remember to keep the file size to less than 350kb. When it arrives to your phone, open it and it will begin playing. Choose Options (right softkey) and save it.

Oh, and unless you have one of those text messaging deals with Verizon, I think sending them costs .25 or something.

A growing link for Mac and Verizon phone users is:

And there you have it!

You can play your own videos on this phone. They need to be in a .3gp format which is done by running Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter program or similar. If you make the bitrate and and/or video size too big, the phone plays it, but as a series of stills. You will have to experiment to settings. I've learned that 176X144 resolution seems to play best.

Simply copy the converted file to the myfilix subdirectory on your memory card and go to 'MyFlix' under the 'The Pix & Flix' menu and select it.

I have had one for about 10 days. I really like it, with one exception. The volume of the handset seems to fluctuate periodically. There is a call privacy setting that should be turned off. This helps but I still seem to have the problem. The volume will literally change in the course of a call. I am not sure what causes this.
