So I was at work and I made a phone call and left a message. The person calls me back and I open the phone to take the call and it shuts off. It has done this before so I turn it back on and go to call them back. I type in the number, hit call, and it shuts off again immediately.

The performance continued to decline until it's now at the point where it won't do anything. If I turn it on, the lights come on and stay on, the earpiece and screen remain off, and the keys do not function. My only option is to pull out the battery.

I looked through some other threads and tried the * + # keys to open the bootloader or whatever but it doesn't work. I went to Cingular on my way home and I figured it would just be my battery, and of course he didn't have any to put into my phone. He told me that it's not the battery since the lights will come on.

I'm hoping there's a fix someone around here knows about because I have some pics from the Yngwie Malmsteen concert the other night that I really don't want to lose, not to mention my numbers that are stored on the phone rather than the SIM.

Please help!

Also, another problem I've been having is that the little rubber nub that tells the phone that it's closed has been getting stuck and I've had to use things like pens or keys to hit it into it's proper position. I've been meaning to get a new phone and I think this is a big catalyst.

Update: I opened it up and turned it on and let it sit for about 2 minutes and it made a little sound like I got a text message. This is the 2nd time it's done that. Earlier I had a friend tried calling it while it was seemingly off and it didn't ring and he went straight to my voicemail. I turned it on a few minutes later, and after a delay it made the text msg sound and then played my ringtone endlessly until I pulled out the battery.

Anyway, after having just made that sound, the lights on the keypad are off. I have it plugged into the wall to see if that helps.

Just called Cingular and spoke with a tech rep and he told me he had no idea, ran thru the normal things (take out the battery, and so forth) and said he called Motorola for me and they told him the same thing.

At least he was able to push my upgrade date up to now rather than having me wait until the end of next month to get a discount on a few phone.

I'm just extremely pissed I'm going to lose all my pics and text messages. I hope someone sees this and has some sort of answer.

I brought my phone and my laptop to Cingular and the girl told me it's probably the wire ribbon that leads to the headpiece of the phone. I opened the phone halfway and turned it on and it booted up fine.

Keeping the phone opened only half way I was able to back up my contacts in Mobile Phone Tools. I also saved some of my text messages to text files (the text message feature of MPT sucks for backing them up btw).

However, MPT wasn't reading my pictures for some reason. I figured being there for over an hour was long enough so I packed up my stuff and she loaned me a temporary phone. Does anybody know of any other programs I can use to get the picture files off my phone? p2kman wasn't connecting to the phone but I have to leave for work in a few minutes and don't have time to mess with it more.

Ok, I was able to get everything off the phone. Now I'm trying to decide on a new phone. I'm not really interested in a SLVR or RAZR, nor the V557 or V551. I'm just tired of Motorola's slow interface with bad camera storage.

I'm looking at the Sony Ericsson Z520a and the W600i. Does anybody have any input? The W600i has a 1.3mp camera and 256mb storage, the only thing that worries me is how sturdy/durable that swivel top is. Some people have complained about the Z520a having awful reception whenever you touch the antenna. I wonder if it's the same with the W600i.
