She's trying to be a rebel...
Mortal Kombat 1 & 2. I thought they were cool when they 1st came out in theatres, but they just looked corny a few years later.

No, I hated LotR because it was so badly written. All the characters ever talked about was how important the mission was, or how dangerous or scary, etc. The actors went way over the top in their delivery; it looked like they were just on the edge of having an orgasm every time they spoke.
Worst of all, what does the movie advocate? Don't tell me it's just entertainment -- all art is infused with messages. Tolkien's original trilogy is a Romanticist's overreaction to the perils of industrialization. Don't you like what technology has conjured? Tolkien surely didn't, and that's the foundation of all his thinking. He's advocating a return to nature and simplicity, which in his view includes monarchy (the King) and serfdom (the Hobbits).

Not to disagree, but I don't remember them 'always' talking about how scary anything was. Yes, they did emphasize the mission and the danger, but the book did the same. The Fellowship was created to combat the dangers of the Riders, Almost every human who came in contact with it was tempted and eventually tainted by the power of the ring. Dangerous, don'tcha think?
Again, and I should have prefaced that I've seen Fellowship 3 times, Towers 6 times (because it rocked, imo) and Return twice, there was only one (maybe two) person (people ^_^) in the whole cast who I can see as overacting. Most of the actors were chosen wisely and they portrayed their respective characters very accurately to the book's descriptions.
And in all actuality, the book was about the Great War (WWI) and how Tolkien saw/felt it. Frodo and Sam's relationship was that of an Officer and his "Footman" (Servant, Courier, general getter of things and such). But what you mentioned is also true, that Tolkien did not like the way everything was going technology-wise.
But can you argue that they DIDN'T show that in the Movies? The Ents overcoming Saruman's industry driven Orcs comes to mind.
The movie also advocated friendship. When in the face of hardships beyond your own strength, who can you turn to?
