I know I don't have a high post count here (heh, first post), but I saw a link to this thread from over on hiptop.com
1. There are NO WAP settings on the hiptop device, as no carrier offers the WAP browser.
2. An unlocked sidekick/hiptop is ONLY good for Voice and SMS. There's no data service (web, aim, email, downloads) and NO data backup. You can't get pictures off the device (so you're stuck with a camera that can't send pictures anywhere).
If your battery dies, you lose all your contacts, calendar events, notes and To-Do tasks.
You can't download new ringtones
You can't download new apps
Same with games.
Basically, you're screwed out of everything even the simplest phones can do now.
Why won't they work?
Each hiptop is loaded with a carrier specific OS that is locked into their APN. I have absolutely no idea why you can change the APN, as it does absolutely nothing. They're made to read off of that specific service provider's servers. So, for example, if you had a Fido Hiptop 2 unlocked, and put a T-Mobile sim in, and switched the APN, you'd STILL only have voice and sms.
In other words, unlocking a hiptop device is pointless, you gain nothing from it except selling power to uninformed ebayers
And no, medianet will not work.
