I just tried it and it works beautifully. It's also quite easy to learn and use.
I drag the song I want to use to my desktop, open Audacity and choose File and Open, selecting the song. I then use the selection tool (top left corner, looks like a capital "I") to select the portion of the song I want, or I put the cursor where I want the portion to end and go to Edit, Select, and choose one of the options. I then go to File and Export Selection As MP3. I save it to my desktop. You'll need to keep the file size to less than 350kb, or a little more than 20 seconds.
I then open my email program (Entourage - Mac) and attach the file and send it to my tendigitcellnumber@vzwpix.com. It will be sent to your phone as a pix message. View it and choose options on the right soft key, save it as a ringtone.
You've got it.
Oh, and make sure you enable mp3s on the phone. The default is set to Verison's VCast. Hit Menu (OK) and 0000000. Scroll down to #11 - Music Setting. Select it and enable mp3s.

I converted my MP3 to a 340 kb file and emailed it to my phone with Outlook. I received the Pix message but I am unable to open it. I get the error "Failed to play Pix Message."
Yes, I did enable the MP3 ability of my phone. Also, on the VZWPix site they do not allow you to upload MP3's anymore. Any ideas why this wouldn't work?

Did you use Audacity?
Is the song you used copyright protected?

Jeremy GI, I had the same problem the 1st time I tried to open the file. It gave me the same error. Then I tried to open it again and it worked. Just keep trying.

Yes, I used Audacity. I tried multiple times. I am pretty certain this feature has been disabled by Verizon. Thank you for your help.

It may be that the file is too large. I recorded a 9-second clip at 80kbit, 24 kHz and it is just under 86 kb. Maybe try a shorter/smaller test clip. Oh, and I use Nero Wave Editor.

I just tried again (down goes another 25 cents to Verizon) and it worked. I used the AVI-MPEG-WMV-RM to MP3 software and had a file of 200 kb that works. Glad I spent 5 hours to learn how to do that.
