I was never able to get BitPIM to connect to my VX8300 via bluetooth, but I did find another application that is doing the trick just fine.
It is called DataPilot, and you can get it at:

YAY! I just got my VERY first ringtone! I'm totally stoked! Here is what I did:
I used Ringtone Ripper to make my own ringtone. (Search for it on google.)
This is a FREE program that allows you to take a full-length mp3 or CD track (this might help you .wma people) and trim it down to 30 seconds or less. You choose where the clip starts and how long it will be.
Once you've chosen your audio file, where to begin, and how long you want the clip to be, click "Convert to Tone". "Preview" will open the 30-second clip with your default mp3 player and play it.
The program will create a folder created called "My Ringtones" (shortcut on the desktop). That's where the shortened mp3s will be saved. (Don't use the "Send To Phone" option on Ringtone Ripper... you have to get on the internet on your mobile phone to do that...)
Then I just did what someone up there said. I e-mailed myself (########## at vzwpix dot com) with the shortened mp3 file as an attachment.
When I opened the "pix" message, it started playing my 30-second ringtone. I pushed Options-->Save As Ringtone (5). And VOILA! It was in my ringtone folder!
I hope that helps!

Sorry, although you can use your own ring tones there is no way to use your own ringback. Unfortunately you have to subscribe to those which for Verizon customes is $1.99 a year plus $.99 a month for each ringback you have.

Here's an easy way to add an MP3 file ringtone to your LG VX8300 phone. (Might work for others too.)
1. Find the MP3 file you want to use. Download it and save it on your desktop or wherever you want on your computer.
2. Right-click on the file and click on "Send to" > "Mail Recipient" in the menu.
3. Send it to your 10digitphone# at vzwpix dot com'
4. Open the message and click on "Options" on your phone.
5. Choose "Save as ringtone".
6. Go to "Settings and Tools" > "Sounds and Settings" > "Call Sounds" > "Call Ringtone" > "All Calls" (or whichever setting is appropriate).
7. Your new ringtone will be listed there. Select it and test it out. If it's satisfactory save it and that's it!

This is the way I get my music onto my memory card.
1. Format card in Phone, by going to Settings & Tools menu, option 8, Memory, Option 3, Card Memory, select options, with the right soft key, select 1, Format card, when that is done transfer the card to your card reader on your pc.
2. Open windows explorer, it should recognize your card reader as a drive. When you open that drive, it will show your card directory.
3. In windows explorer open the folder on your pc where your music files are located, right click on one of the music files and from that menu select "open with", select Windows Media Player, all your mp3 files will change to Windows Media files. No need to go through and convert them.
4. Then I just select the songs I want, if you hold down the control key while selecting songs, you can choose the ones you want. While they are highlighted, right click and drag to your card to the my_music folder, from that menu select "copy here", all your music will be copied to your card and the original music files will stay on your pc. I have copied 90 songs at once with no problem.
I have also used this same procedure to copy pictures and video.
I changed the settings on my phone to save to the memory card automatically. The steps to do this are: Go to settings & tools, option 8, Memory, option 1, save options, select from PIX, Flix or Sounds, Then select card memory, select OK.
I use MIDI files for my ringtones, I have found tons of free MIDI files online. I use Bitpim and data cable to transfer the MIDI files from my computer to my phone. You can copy them directly to the ringtones folder.

OK. This is kinda the long way around, but it gets you there. FIRST, Have whatever sound/piece of a song that you want to use as a RINGTONE ready to play. Second, Start the RECORDER on your phone (Hold down the bottom button on the left side of the phone and then start the music. Record the portions of the song/sound that you wish to have as a RINGTONE. When finished, Choose SAVE. THIRD, open the Text Messenger on the phone and send that sound file to a friend. They can then SEND IT BACK to you . When the Text message comes in with the sound file attached, you can save that sound file as a RINGTONE.
It's easier if your friend already has the sound/song and just sends it to you. You don't have to go through recording it.
HOPE THIS HELPS

Now, I've never owned a cell phone before but am planning on buying the 8300, and am also planning on getting a microsd card.
Is it possible to use the microSD card to get ringtones on the phone? As in, can it load ringtones off of a microSD card? Or if I had the 30 secondish clip in the music folder of the microSD card, would that be able to be used as a ringtone?
I really don't want to pay for a cable and am not getting text messaging or whatever and while 25cents an email isn't too bad, it'll pile up and that's horribly unappealing too.
