This is the way I get my music onto my memory card.
1. Format card in Phone, by going to Settings & Tools menu, option 8, Memory, Option 3, Card Memory, select options, with the right soft key, select 1, Format card, when that is done transfer the card to your card reader on your pc.
2. Open windows explorer, it should recognize your card reader as a drive. When you open that drive, it will show your card directory.
3. In windows explorer open the folder on your pc where your music files are located, right click on one of the music files and from that menu select "open with", select Windows Media Player, all your mp3 files will change to Windows Media files. No need to go through and convert them.
4. Then I just select the songs I want, if you hold down the control key while selecting songs, you can choose the ones you want. While they are highlighted, right click and drag to your card to the my_music folder, from that menu select "copy here", all your music will be copied to your card and the original music files will stay on your pc. I have copied 90 songs at once with no problem.
I have also used this same procedure to copy pictures and video.
I changed the settings on my phone to save to the memory card automatically. The steps to do this are: Go to settings & tools, option 8, Memory, option 1, save options, select from PIX, Flix or Sounds, Then select card memory, select OK.
I use MIDI files for my ringtones, I have found tons of free MIDI files online. I use Bitpim and data cable to transfer the MIDI files from my computer to my phone. You can copy them directly to the ringtones folder.

Having just been through all the neccessary steps and same troubles as
others getting my VX8300 to play Mp3's, I decided to compile my own
little guide. I found all of the pieces of the puzzle in different
places and I present them to you now, compiled in the manner that worked
for me.
Note: This works, apparently, only on phones that aren't already running
Version 3 of the onboard software. You will need Version 3, but that has
to be the last thing you do.
It's entirely possible that steps 4 and 5 are not needed with Version 3,
I have no idea. I just know that once you get it those settings are
locked out so I had to do them before I upgraded.
1) Get a VX8300. It's the greatest phone in the whole wide world. I loves mine and it keeps getting cooler.
2) Have mp3s.
3) Purchase a 2 gig MicroSD card from NewEgg (dot com)
Actually, purchase anything you ever need from NewEgg. They have the best prices, fantastic return policy and superfast shipping. I got a Transcend chip with adapter for $24 and it's working great so far.
4) Set the phone to accept mp3 format.
-Open Phone
-Press Menu
-Press "0"
-Enter access code "000000"
-Go to 11, Music Setting.
-Select MP3 ENABLE.
(If your phone is already running Ver. 3 this won't work and I'm sorry, I have no idea how to help you.)
5) Tell the phone to use your mp3 Collection instead of Vcast.
-Go to Menu
-Settings and Tools
-5, Phone Settings
-2, Shortcut Key
-Play button
-My mp3s
This will now put a directory called "my_mp3s" on the card.
6) Load that directory with all your happy tunes via a cardreader. I know nothing about the software that comes in the music package, so. that's what I suggest.
7) Now, close the phone and hold down the play button. It will load the awesome looking equalizer and play probably about half of your tunes.
This is due to some totally inexplicable fault in the software. The rest will say "FILE TYPE NOT SUPPORTED". Sucks, doesn't it? THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BIT RATES, FILE SIZE, ID3 TAGS OR FILE NAMES. I tried all that, there is no rhyme or reason. It's just crappy software. Which brings us to.
Head on down to your friendly neighborhood Verizon retail store. (the satellite offices can't do anything besides direct you to a real store)
Have them upgrade your software to Version 3. Viola.
THIS IS WHAT FIXES THE "FILE TYPE NOT SUPPORTED" PROBLEM.
Your LG VX8300 will now play your mp3s and you get to feel cool for having basically hacked your phone to do something it was supposed to do in the first place.
The only thing I don't like about V3 is that it gets rid of the neat looking equalizer and every time I go to start it it insists on "ADDING SONGS TO LIBRARY". This seems to take less time each time I do it, though.
As I say, Version 3 may only require that you load the card without mucking around in the system too much. I have no idea. I just know that I spent two days fighting the thing and reading everything I could.
Putting these steps together took care of me.
Good luck!

Got the 8300 about2 weeks ago. Thankfully I remembered about this site from when I had my 6100!
Well, I can't do the "OK --- 0 --- 000000 --- Enable MP3's". It does show the Music Settings button, but says "Not Available" when pushed, but I didn't need to do that.
I just used Realplayer to put the MP3's onto the SD microcard. After that I had to go into the card and put the music files into the My Music folder and so far they are all working.

I was messin' with our babysitter's phone today.
Popped microSD into the phone and it created directories, including one called "my_music"
Copied MP3s into that folder (not in sub folders though cause the phone is too dumb to allow you to navigate them). so they are just a jumbled pile in that folder.
Couldn't activate the "MP3" function using "0000000, 11, blah blah" because it said "Service not available" or something like that.
Got it to play songs by closing the phone and hitting the "Play" button for about 5 seconds (when the little animated bubbles stopped moving), THEN hitting the FORWARD or NEXT button on the front of the phone. It brings you to the vCAST window and says "Adding songs to playlist" or something like that. THEN you can use the vCAST player to listen to your songs.
+ You can listen to MP3s in stereo at a pretty loud volume
- To list with headphones you need one of those submicro adapters (reducer).
Verizon. I know you're trying to get people to buy music using the vCAST service, but why make it such a pain in the arse for average users who just wanna listen to their current music collection. Lame.
