Hi,
I currently have an ATT family plan. One line expires this week ( the main one) but the two subsidiary lines don't expire until October. I've been told that to upgrade my phone (the main one - which barely works at all now) I will have to Switch my phone to cingular and start an individual plan, & the other two lines will remain on the family plan on ATT until october. Now I find this ridiculous, we should have been given the option to terminate when ATT was bought out. If i wanted cingular , i would have gotten it, it was an option here along with ATT. but anyways... what i've decided to do is swap my phone for one of the others since I need a functioning phone most in the family. One of the other phones is the same make & model as mine, so will it be a problem to switch the sim cards? Is that all I have to do, just pop them out & replace them? Hopefully that will work so we can just cancel in october and get all new phones (also, you hardly get any deal for having had a plan for 2 years! a friend has sprint and she gets a 150$ credit when she upgrades after a 2 year contract, and tons of phones that amount to 0$ after the credit. the best deal i found was a crappy 20$ phone in the store)
Thanks!

the only way you can swap sims is if the other phone is also ATT branded. if its a Cingular phone, no your sim will not work in it. if you don't want to migrate to Cingular your only options at this point are to either buy an ATT branded phone or buy an unlocked phone.

well yes, that is what i was saying, to swap it for one of my family's better functioning phones, which obviously is also an ATT phone since that is what wireless plan we bought all the phones under.

Cingular will allow you out of your AT+T contracts if you sign up for a new contract with Cingular. (This can only be done thru a call to Cingular or a visit to an official Cingular store, not online or at an authorized reseller.)
We did this to get out of out AT+T contract so we could obtain new phones.
They did not charge us activation, and price matched an offer Best Buy had on the Nokia 6102 for free.
We walked out of the store with 2 new free phones, a more expensive rate plan, and a 2 year agreement.
