Right, ive just bought a USB Data Cable for my D500. I come home and install the software (all that is on the disk). I go to run the PIMS & File Manager application, and I get this message:
My phone is connected to my PC, my bluetooth is on aswell. How can I turn this port online or whatever?

Go to File - setup and check what is selected for Ports. You can also check the help menu by pressing F1 for more information on how to setup PIMS. Check the phone's user manual for information on how to use bluetooth. I heard that with bluetooth, you can link your phone to PC without PIMS. Check the following thread too:

The help section is fucking pathetic, it offers no real help at all. I looked at the ports, only COM1 is in the list. For some reason it wont find my phone, it keeps saying "Offline" at the bottom.

Have you installed the SGH-D500 Samsung PC Studio USB driver (ver.2.0)? If not, download it from the following link:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/productsupport/download/Model_Select .aspx?type=Mobile+Phone&typecode=100100&subtype=Mobile+Phone&subtypeco de=100101&model=SGH-D500&filetype=SW&language=
After that, re-check Ports setting in PIMS setup.
By the way, I suppose you are sure that you bought the correct cable for D500.

I've been pulling my hair out over this issue as well. From looking at the other posts on the net I think this "phantom" port thing is a common problem. In the set-up menu of PC Studio v2.0 I cannot select any ports. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing a number of times.
All drivers are loaded from samsung website.
I am however, using a normal usb cable from PC to phone. Perhaps a BT connection would help - however as far as I've been reading the same problem occurs with Bt as well.
Perhaps this is a software issue?
Any help would obviously be appreciated.

Is your cable a Samsung OEM cable for D500 or a 3rd party cable? As for BT, have you checked the following thread?
