I was with ATT. Got an unlocked phone from UK. Worked fine for a while. I just switched to Cingular. But I still have to the same weak signal with the new sim card.
My unlocked phone worked fine for a while with the ATT sim card. A month ago I was getting no service at home....just when i was out. They said it was cause they were chaning all the ATT towers to Cingular.
Now when i switched, the rep wanted the MEI# of the phone I was going to use and my phone is not available in the USA. She said that it is not going to work right unless I have a Cingular phone. IS this RIGHT??
I appreciate any help.

could be... the primary frequency is 850 mhz... if the phone you got from the UK is 1900 only (the other north american frequency) that could cause you some grief

Thanks. I believe you are right. I need to check so see which carrier does use the frequency other than 850. Do you know? I think Cingular and T-mobile use 850

cingular uses 850 and 1900.
t-mobile uses only 1900.
for cingular, only one frequency may be available in a given area.

My phone has 900/ 1800 and 1900. seem like I need to be with T-mobile.
I thought I read somewhere the T-mobile is going to change some of the 1900 to 850. Is that true?

Might also be SIM card compatability, also. If they gave you 3G/UMTS enabled sim cards, some devices have a lot of RF and security problems with these.
