I found this trick where if you can find a song small enough or know how to make your own ringtones and compress them, you can have free ringtones. Send and email to yourphone#@vzwpix.com from yor computer with the song as the attachment. When you recieve the message click options, than click set as ringtone. After that, go to your ringtones and select it as your ringtone and WALAH!  your all done!

I can receive and open my music file to use as a ringer on my 8300 after i upload it but there is no sound? What are you guys doing to get it to work?

I use audacity to shorten the file and export it as an mp3 file. The end file is under 200 kb. When I receive it on my phone it still will not work, no sound will play

After I shorten my clip, I use iTunes to compress the clip to AAC format then compress it again to MP3 format.

Oh yeah, and make sure your phone isn't on vibrate, it happens... lol

Will this work for the 8100? I can send it to the phone and it plays but when i get the message I can only save it as a sound, not a ringtone...

Oh, I am not sure about the 8100. If there is no option to save it as a ringtone than I guess not, sorry.

this was fabulous and it worked great, but one problem... after i sent and saved the first one i realized it was messed up... and then i sent the next one and unfortunately i saved them both! so now I have 2 2 Live Crew Hoochie Mama ringtones... how do I delete them once I've saved them to my phone???
