I just received my unlock code from Cingular for my Motorola V551. Does anyone out there have experience with unlocking their phone per cingular's instructions? Did it work right away? What non-cingular sim card did you use? Any problems once you got to a foriegn country? Thanks in advance for any responses, Ciao!
When you get a unlock code it should be effective immediately and usually you'd use a T-Mo SIM to unlock it, most common non-cingular chip at least..and when its unlocked and quadband which your V551 is quadband and should now be unlocked, you shouldn't have any problems moving from country to country.

Thanks Veilfore89 for your information. I'm looking forward to not paying cingular's overpriced international calling fees. Mille Gracie!

here is the procedure
You only have five (5) tries to unlock the phone.
If this process is unsuccessful five times in a row, the phone will be permanently locked to the Cingular network.
Motorola
1 Insert non-Cingular SIM card
2 Power on the handset
- wait a few moments allowing your phone to fully power up
- you will be prompted to enter the unlock code
3 Enter unlock code
4 Press OK
- the handset is then successfully unlocked

From your provider (that the phone is locked to) - if they are willing to give it to you
Some of the most common methods for unlocking your phone:
1) From the provider, usually if your with them longer than 2 years they will disclose the code to you
2) IMEI Caclulating: Most commonly done by shops that ask for your IMEI and send you the unlock code
3) Most common is SmartClip unlocking. Turn the phone off, plug into clip, power on the clip and the phone follows, within seconds the phones unlocked.
Cheapest one is free, which is #1, although its a pain to con them sometimes...or varies on provider I should say, Most effective otherwise is smart clips
Try the methods I last posted. It's a run around if you attempt step #1 but it's worth it in the long run because it's costless and you learn how to badger the high end service reps.
