I just received my LGVX8300 today & I already had the micro SD card ready for it. Though, when I tried to upload my songs(mp3) into the card and play it on the phone, the phone didn't read it. I figure Verizon disabled the mp3 format, so what format will I need to convert my songs to? Thanks!

I also just purchased a LG VX 8300 as my first phone !! Seems way complicated to me. But, I guess I will figure it out in time.
As for your problem, I happened to run across this as I was googling. You have to disable CAST and enable MP3. You have to do it through the Secret Service Programming Menu. I did mine this way, ( MENU, 0, 000000, 11. Music Settings, MP3 Enable ). I hope that works for you.
I don't have a cable, driver, or software yet. Can you help me in any way there? You can email me. Thanks!

The above menu programming will work.
Additionally, you'll need to reprogram the outside music player buttons since they have a default to wmp.
To do this, go to Settings and Tools, press 5 (phone settings), press 2 (shortcut key), press 5 (play key), and choose my mp3s.
Good to go.

to Rever:
I followed your steps to change the front of my
LG 8300, but on the last step button #5 is a reset
command not an option to choose My mp3s.
Please clarify.

Then you're doing something wrong, OnTheRocks. You must make sure the MP3 player is enabled before you're able to get to that menu.
So, to reiterate:
Step 1: MENU, 0, 000000, 11. Music Settings, MP3 Enabled.
Step 2: MENU, Settings & Tools, 5. Phone Settings, 2. Shorcut Key, 5. Play Key, My MP3s.
Do it in that order.

Hmmm...Works for me.
Press OK (Menu) and go to SETTINGS & TOOLS.
Press #5 (Phone Settings)
Press # 2 (SHORTCUT KEY)
At that point, you should have all the buttons displayed, i.e., 1. Left Key, 2. Up Key, 3. Right Key, 4. Down Key, 5. Play Key, 6. Reset All.
#5 is the one you want, which takes you to the choice between My V Cast Music and My mp3s.
If this is not working for you then I wonder if you have followed ghinsey's post above, the second post on this thread.

I don't really understand this at all.. I've been using the software and the v-cast seems to work fine... I've used all of my own MP3s and just synced them with the enclosed software... I haven't even seen a way that I can drag and drop mp3s onto my phone's memory card... it doesn't even show up in my My Computer list. Are there pros and cons to using the program that is installed vs your own mp3s? and how to you get your mp3s on your phone??

I don't yet know a lot about this particular aspect of the phone (I get my 1GB card on Friday), but have read that you must format the card FIRST by putting it in the 8300. After that, load the music on the card (put it in the MY mp3s file) in your computer and then insert it into the phone. It will then read the card.
