Phone Model: 3G iPhone, by Golly!! And a couple of Razrs

I'd like to get the Razr V3X. Here's the poop on it concerning compatibility...
"GSM Bands: UMTS/850/900/1800/1900
Phone Status: GSM/UMTS Unlocked
Contract: Not Required
Compatible Networks: Cingular, T-Mobile & AT&T, All GSM/UMTS
Networks Worldwide"
But somewhere here, I think I remember reading about someone having problems using it here in the US. Am I dreaming or has anyone had experience with this phone one whay or the other? I think I'm gonna go ahead and spring for it and if I have trouble with it, I'll exchange it for a Gold V3i.
Thanx for any help,
Geri "why can't I just be happy with my plain old V3" O

every phone model out there will invariably have defective units... the RAZR and its variants are one of the most popular models on the market right now
I dont know of any specific issues with that device as of yet
some complaints of coverage... but no more or no less than other people that dont have a RAZR (ppl blaming the device when its the network most of the time)

I have noticed that the V3X is not a "quad-band" phone, just GSM/UTMS bands. I wonder if this is an issue if I get into the sticks with this phone (as we're prone to do every once and while here in MS.. )). These days, I can't tell what band is where anymore

actually it is...
the quad band referrs to the 4 frequency bands it can detect...850/900/1800/1900 mhz... GSM and UMTS are supporting technologies
850 and 1900 are north American and 900/1800 are almost everywhere else
your phone should work anywhere in the world with the exception of Japan... there the operating frequency is 2100mhz

Ahhh, now I understand. Thanx for the info, I'm ordering one in the morning. I've not seen anyone around here comment on using it (that I'm aware of, anyway), so I'll be posting back. I doubt that Cingular is making use of the "push" features, but it should satisfy the "cool" factor well enough.
Thanx again,
Geri O

I have heard gov people said that if you are using V3x then you need to set it on 850-1900 manualy, you don't want to leave it on auto because every time you came near by military base the fone will pick up UMTS and this is the band that military use also it been encodes with stuff that will fry your fone.
What is your thought on this elmo01??
I think he meant push to talk?

No, I wasn't talking about PTT, and "push" was not a good choice o' words. The following is what I'm referring to.
"the Motorola RAZR V3x features SCREEN3, an innovative technology solution from Motorola that gives you zero-click access to news, sports, entertainment, and other premium content directly from your mobile device home screen – no buttons to push, no browsers to launch. Motorola's SCREEN3 puts fresh content at your fingertips. "
Thanx for the info about setting the bands manually, we are near a big air national guard base.
Is there a reason this phone hasn't been introduced into the US yet, as far as I know, anyway?
Thanx,
Geri O

I have the v3x for a month now. It is an unlocked which I am running thru Cingular. The phone is amazing. I do have some problems which I hope to fix thru this forum. The two biggest problems is that the signal strength indoors is not that strong and ends up on emergency mode quite often. I spoke to my Cingular rep and he said it is due to the fact it is not a quad band phone. The second issue which can be corrected(even though I have not as of yet) is Sending and receiving MMS and getting onto the web. In th end if you can deal with the low signal strenght this is an awesome phone.
