a big thank you to all who participate in this forum. after four different verizon representatives/service people told me that the announcealert feature that was on the 8100 was unavailable on the 8300, i had kinda given up. i even asked them if it might be under a different name. now i know that it's called call alert. and it was buried so deep in the menus that i probly would have never found it. THANKS!

For all of you who have questions about WMA files: Yes you could have both, MP3 files AND WMA files. The mp3 songs belongs in the My_mp3 folder, while the WMA files belongs in the My_Music folder. As you know already, you can set the front play button whether it should play My MP3's or My Music - which is the WMA's.
Most of you (of us) set the button for my MP3's - so if you wanna access the my music folder, just go to "GET IT NOW", 1. Get Tunes & Tones, 4. My Music.

Now a question. I've seen somewhere a trick to make the caller ID "speak", so before my phone starts ringing it announces the name (example: "Call from... Mike"). I followed the instructions, and it works nicely. Now I want to turn it off, and I forgot how to change this setting. Does someone know how to do that??

This trick belongs in here:
This is cool. If you go into the code (OK...0...000000) and go to 6. H/W>>>6. Camera Test>>>1. Camera Full Screen, you can opt to take your pics in full screen mode. Here's the catch: You have to close the cover after you hit select on and hit OK. If you hit the clr button to back out, the phone will turn off. The camera mode turns to partial screen every time the camera is turned off, so you have to go back in the camera test settings to re-establish the full screen mode every time you turn on your phone.
Oh, the full screen won't tell you to hit the left softkey to save the pic, but it's the same controls as the partial screen...and you won't be able to view pics in full screen.

I kept getting a message that said i had to go to vzwpix.com to view my messages. I called verizon and you just have to ask them to enable media messaging. It does not cost anything you just pay per message recieved. Paying .25 is a lot better than paying full price.
If you use Bitpim you can add ringtones with a size above 350kb. Its not smart to put a whole song though because your voicemail will come on after about 30 seconds anyway. It is a good way to boost up the quality of the ringers though.

The helpful people at Verizon were able to steer me to the underscore. If anyone else is having the same problem, the trick is that you have to start typing something. Then the little ABC option kicks in on the right soft key. From there, option 2, I think, is the character map. The underscore is in there.

Hey all I'm a new 8300 user just recently got a phone believe it or not. I been reading all the posts they make for a good read. I don't know if this is possible or I missed it in the postings. Can I play .wmv files on my vx8300 instead of mp3 files. If this has been covered already, I apoligize in advance. I have done the items stated earlier enabling the MP3 on the phone.
I've also read in another forum about free internet. Is this true?
Thanks Mee

This was an awesome post. I was trying to figure out how to make the outside play button for the MP3s and instead of searching through menues i found it here.
My question: anyone know what kind of videos this thing plays??

Just got my phone yesterday and thanks to everyone here, I had no problem using the Audacity/Email trick to get some great ringtones up.
Question: I emailed myself a 1:02 mp3 file (126 KB, 16 bitrate) that I just wanted to keep on my phone but when I open it up, nothing plays. Even saving it as a ringtone or sound doesn't let it play. Is there a limit on sounds/ringtones and if so could I tranfer it to my mp3 or music folder? Thanks.

First, let me say this forum is awesome. It is the reason why I bought a VX8300, as it proved to me I could play mp3 over a bluetooth headset, even though I was a Mac user with iTunes. Y'all rock, and now I do, too!
Because this board gave me so much info, thought I'd share the wealth.
A tip for people who want to hook a bluetooth headset up to play mp3, if you've already sync-ed it up with your phone before trying to play mp3s over it (as I did) you'll need to go back, drop the connection and reset it. To do this:
1. Press MENU>>SETTINGS & TOOLS>>7.BLUETOOTH>>(scroll down and select your headset)>>DROP.
2.Go back and select your headset again>>press>>OPTIONS>>SERVICE DISCOVERY>>OK
3. Select your headset again and press OK.
4. Rock out.

I just got the 8300 after havinf a razr for about a year. On the razr, you could take off the back cover and have access to the sim card. Is this possible with the LG phones? I have both an 8300 and a 5300 and I don't see the sim card on either.
